He will be replaced by an appointment made by Governor Chris Christy.  ???

Not to sound churlish, but I'll miss him as much as I miss Jesse Helms and Robert Byrd. Good bye and god riddance. I will be curious to see who Christie appoints. It will be an indicator of what kind of president he would be if he decides to run. Of course, the Senate might also get a fat guy added to the ranks. ;D

So, was Obama's visit to the Jersey Shore just a coincidence? Or, is he looking for some payback from Christie in the form of a RINO or even a DINO as replacement for Lautenberg?

I wonder if he can appoint Tony Soprano? I mean they're all crooks anyway, Tony just has a certain entertainment value and if we're lucky Schumer might get whacked. ;D

There was a quote from someone, it might have been Sam Clemons, "I have never killed a man, but I have read a number of obituaries with great pleasure". ;D
Despite my parents good efforts and rules about speaking ill of the dead, I can't help but rejoice in the passing of another elitist. The only downside is my conflict with the belief that "no tyrant should ever die a natural death".   :'(

To quote Thumper in the original Bambi flick, "If ya can't say sumthin' nice, don't say nothin' at all."

In light of that sage advice, I have nothing to say about Lautenberg.

They finally get to bury that cadaver. The arrogance meter has already dropped 10 points in NJ.
Yes, Christi gets to appoint a Senator, but Christi has been sitting on some really crappy anti gun legislation - not signing them, and no veto either, because our primaries are today. We are all waiting to see if he puts the veto on some really stupid, arrogant legislation, or if he ends up being just another turd we must deal with.

I hate to disappoint you Jay, but They will NOT be burying Lautenberg .
As with Ted Kennedy they will put a wrench on his head and screw him into the ground.

Lautenberg was a member of the greatest generation. You guys should at least pay respects based on that. I thank him for what he did in WWII, laud him for surviving the Great Depression and thank him for his long service to this nation. Okay, two out of three ain't bad!

Keep your perspective about that so called "greatest generation" .
They were no better than the leach voters of today.
These were the chumps who elected communist FDR 4 freaking times.
Did you know that WWII combat troops contained a far higher percentage of draftees than Vietnam ?
Lautenberg was a POS and the biggest favor he did America was to finally die.

Tom,

My perspective differs from yours. My father was a member of the greatest generation, survived the great depression and passed on a very different view of FDR than you (and perhaps I) have. My father and I differed on a great many things: FDR, unions, Cassius Clay and communism for example, which led to many heated arguments which were mitigated by his teaching me how to hunt, fish and enjoy the wonders of this nation. After Pearl Harbor my father volunteered for the U.S. Army, but was turned down because he wasn't yet a citizen. Within a year he was drafted and "made" a citizen.. a fact he was proud of. He was with the Big Red One at Omaha Beach, wounded and finished out the war with the Army Air Corps in England. Based on what little my father told me about his combat, I have great respect for any American soldier, airman, sailor, marine or merchant mariner who served in that conflict, the likes of which we haven't seen since. I have no less respect for those who have served in combat during any of the wars and conflicts this nation has experienced. My thought is that my father (and mother) would welcome Lautenberg home to rest in ANC beside them. I doubt my father and mother would have agreed with the Senator, but they shared a common bond with him as war veterans. So, as these WWII vets pass, let's show a little respect for the good things these people have done for this country, and maybe, just maybe, forget those things we may consider not so good.

My Dad also grew up during the Depression .
My opinion of that POS FDR is based on the historical record, not an opinion.
As it happens , my Grand father thought the sun rose and set in FDR's butt, his Father in Law, (My great Grandfather ) called him "That damned communist".
The record bears out my Great Grandfather.

Granted, Lautenberg had a honorable record as an American Soldier....but so did General Benedict Arnold.

The shame is that they both became traitors.

As much as I respect the military sacrifices and admire those of that generation, many a good man's great deeds have been nullified by stupidity, bad choices, greed and arrogance. Lautenberg seemed to embrace the latter two as a Senator, and for those deeds he can rot wherever he's at.

Some of the biggest douche bags in history have served as wonderful soldiers .
Hitler would be the best known example, promoted to Corporal, decorated for bravery, (and motorcycle messengers weren't exactly sissies ) gassed repeatedly, and kept on duty when the Army was cut to 100,000 men .

It would be if I'd seen him. Here's the thing, Lautenberg was a douche as a politician. But he was good soldier and deserves to be respected and honored for that. When he's laid to rest at Arlington he deserves to be there and be treated with the same respect as the guys on either side of him. I wouldn't vote for him at gun point, but an old soldier is entitled to be left alone in a military cemetery. His war is over. Ours should be too when it comes to this guy.

The guy on the other side may wind up being "Whitey" Bulger, he was in the Air Force .

Lautenberg wasn't a genocidal sociopath, he was just wrong on guns. Hell, he'd say the same about you, but he'd probably honor your service as a Marine. We need to stop taking this stuff so personally, and understand that good people can be flat out wrong, but that doesn't make them evil. I will fight against them, but I'll let them RIP.

Yeah, WHATEVER FQ. I hear what you're all saying and that's all well and good, but being from NJ I am just happy that he is not "representing" me any more. I know he'll most likely be replaced by another asshole, but I'm glad he's gone and I don't care how he got there.
I know it's a movie, but remember the advice to Private Ryan? "Honor us by being a good man and living a good life". My personal opinion is that Lauternberg fell into arrogance and elitism and gets what he gets.

Two points:

  1.  In my view, anyone who works to disarm the American Citizenry in violation of the 2nd Amendment and their oath of office is not only wrong but is either a traitor or a complicit fool and tool of traitors.

   2.  I wish we could have been gracious much sooner.

This POS was an unnamed co- conspirator in every murder, rape, and robbery facilitated by his criminal legislation .
Hitler and Stalin were both better people than this dirt bag, their bloodshed had an actual purpose behind it .
The slaughter of innocents that Lautenberg  enabled served only to get him the votes of stupid people.
