Title: Giant Rats? You know you're too stupid to live when....
Post by: fightingquaker13 on June 27, 2013, 11:52:26 PM
Ok, I know Path gets offended when I take the lord's name in vain, but I think even Rastus will let me slide this time. Quoth the Gunny "JESUS CHRIST PYLE! GET OFF MY OBSTACLE"!
Apparently a mild mannered Buda Texas family is promoting the virtues of cappiberas (giant 60 pound swamp rats, or RUSes for you geeks) as pets. Yes that's right, they'll sit on your couch, swim (and doubtless shat) in your pool, and sleep in your bed. Gee, aren't they cute?
Now this being Florida two things will happen. First, all the brain dead idiots that carry rat dogs around in hand bags and buy them $100 designer outfits will have to have one, because they're trendy. Then, as sure as night follows day, they'll get tired of a pony sized guniea pig eating their furniture. But of course they can't put them down. So, just like the snake freaks, they'll release them into the  wild, where they will thrive, as its much like their native South American habitat. I give it 18 months tops before I have to shoo the damn things off my driveway before I can back my truck out of the garage. For the love of God, can we just shoot these people?
Of course, the upside is that they're supposed to be tasty and are the perfect size to hunt with an AR, but frankly, I'd as soon never get the opportunity. What is wrong with these people?
OK, rant over. Here's the article. I particularly like like the picture of the RUS in the inner tube.

They're an anacondas favorite snack in S. America!  The snakes in the glades will get them and proliferate further!  Move out of the heat and let FL go back to the critters!  It's nothing but a swamp anyway!  :)

Leave it to a PhD to not figure out that they would not be as much of a problem if he didn't "shoo the damn things off my driveway before I can back my truck out of the garage".
It takes a drop out out like me to point out that they are much easier to scrape up than they are to chase off.   ;D

No, he just spells better.

But then I'd have dent in my bumper and have to pressure wash the driveway. If these things show up, I'm buying a threaded barrel for the AR, setting up an NFA trust, and paying Uncle Sam $200.  Screw backing over them. ;D

But who ever had fun with a pressure washer? Wait, forget I asked that. I'm sure there's a youtube video out there somewhere. ;D

Y'all, I'm sorry, but HAILL NO!!!
I've done pigs in the house, and if you want strong, destructive, (generally) friendly, very intelligent, dependent, fun and entertaining house pets, they're a fantastic choice, (instead of children).
But I don't freakin' think so!!! I don't need one of these things lurking around as I sleep to know that I don't have a life...
Please!!

The coyotes thank you. First it is turkeys, then cats and dogs and now pigs for a balanced diet!

Might be a business opportunity here.

Breed the things  (sounds like your start up stock will be free for the trapping) and sell the meat to Chic Eateries   ;D ;D
