Title: Is it safe to come out now or what?
Post by: santahog on June 28, 2013, 11:41:31 PM
I'm seeing G-30s for $500, not getting bids. NIB, generally, too..
Is the panic subsiding?

I have been watching the 9mm S&W Shield go from $600 to $800 on auction sites over the last six months. My local store just received 6, they are selling them for $409. I see a new gun coming next month.

Gun prices are returning to normal. The same is true of mags. You can even find Pmags for around thirteen bucks which is what they were pre-panic.  Its ammo that's still at insane prices.

I rode out to the biggest (closest) toy store yesterday to check it against what I'm seeing online and they said $525 is their cost. They're a popular store but I'd always considered them a little high till this last freak show broke out..
Now that things are readjusting, they're high again..
When I moved back down here, my guy in Maine warned me that things were alot higher in these parts. I almost didn't believe him, till I got here and saw it for myself.. Interesting too.. Less money floating around down here and everything but gasoline is noticeably higher than in more affluent areas of the country..
Something else I've noticed is if you try to treat folks right, (or expect to be treated right) they treat you like a fool..
Kinda makes sense in that light, huh..  :(

I expect prices to fall...maybe a bit of a buyers market coming.

By now, everyone with spare money and a need for guns (or not too much of a need) who were susceptible to panic has filled their safes and are not going to be buying for a bit...their usual demand has been fulfilled for some time to come.

Those who did not panic will now resume their usual demand for firearms.

In any case the upcoming demand will be less than the normal demand until the glutted frenzy buyers get unglutted...

Any manufacture who permanently upped production capability for the crazy season will be looking at unused production...and that might mean cutting prices to the bone.

I posted in January ;

I went to the other 2 local gun stores today.
The Range was well stocked with everything, prices were high though, Remington R-1 Blued, $1000, Plain Stag flat top $1800 . Being a range they always have ammo , didn't check brands, or prices .
The other place is the smallest of the area, Remington R-1 Stainless, $850, he had 2 AR Carbines and 1 plain AK $1200 each, has 30 P -Mags on order, due in Thursday Tula, 45ACP 500 round case for $200, plenty of everything else except .223 .

Went to the nearest gun store today to look around, he had a blued Remington R1 $650, and a Taurus PT1911 for $625.

Well, in a moment of adulation, I'm picking up a half case of Wolf .45..
Maybe I'll get to run a few rounds this month!!

Le us know how it works out for you .
Their .223 has a lousy reputation but I've never heard complaints about their "Com Bloc" calibers.

When I had to qualify for the Armored Car company the owner supplied the ammo,He bought the cheapest stuff he could find(Wolf),It was dirty, and inconsistent, one shot would barely work the slide and the next would almost rip it out of your hand.Hopefully their QC has improved... ::) ::)

It's all I use in AK and I've never had an issue, (not one, in fact, as far as I can remember).
I've shot the .45 since they got away from the lacquer casings and again, I don't recall one bad round.
It does shoot dirty, but no worse than the Parabellum Research reloads out out Texas I got last year. It cleans up easier, for some reason, than some of the domestic brass reloads I've shot over the years. Not a chemist. Couldn't tell you why it is..
It's down in the $350 a case range. It gets me out to the range at that price. And it's as accurate at combat distances as anything else you you can buy without getting into "target" stuff..
BTW, Ammoman has AK rounds for $300 a thousand, delivered. Been a while since I've seen that. Knock another $50 off of that and it's back in the "good old days" range..

I don't know about in semi-autos, but in my single-shot Rossi .223, the 62gr Wolf is the most accurate round I've fired in it from a factory round.

I clean after every session, so that isn't an issue.

I still prefer American, brass-cased ammo....( and that is all I'll run in my AR)...... but because I got some for a really good price, I will use the Russian stuff for plinking with my Mini and the Rossi.

My mini doesn't like wolf,  lots of jams.  In  7.62 the sks performs best with wolf even over us made brass casing.
