Well, as a graceful bowing to old eyes I have bought the following. A refurbed Bushnell Dawn to Dusk 3x9 ($60 shipped), a pair of Leupold QD 1" rings ($45 shipped) and a one piece Weaver base from Bass-Pro, ($19 shipped). So, for $124 I think I did pretty well, given that it's for a .22 range toy/tree rat getter, and I'm excited to see what this rig will do. The down side is that there is no freaking .22 ammo! Its like buying a car and being told there is no gas. Sad thing is I might zero it on my AR as 5.56 is a lot more plentiful and about the same price, at least down here. I'll attempt to post pics and a range reports when I can find some affordable ammo.

Thanks, but I didn't buy 5.56 for over $0.35 per round this past fall. Damned if I'll pay that for .22. When it gets back down to a nickel a pop I'll buy some. Scratch that, I'll buy a lot, but until then, I'll sit on what I have.

cant believe you guys cant get 22 ammo.
We in oz arent allowed semi auto rifles such as 10/22's with out a "special licence" however that said, never let it be said that we allow things to get in our way.
What I do have though is a Ruger Charger "pistol" all legal and I brought this year a PWS T3 Summit rifle (biathalon action)
see pics:

Now it so happens that both these firearms have interchangeable parts.
for eg the barrel, mag, stock, trigger kits all swap about, and all will fit on the charger/10-22 action.
See how our gun laws make perfectly no sense what so ever.
Ohh also with a cat A rifle (rimfire bolt, LA, Pump etc) we have no mag capacity issues we can have 50rnd drum mags and its all perfectly legal, however if I put that mag on my charger pistol all of a sudden I break the law. Go Figure.....
Enjoy your 10/22 FQ now go make it look or tacticool and evil looking, Gonna get an ATI stock for mine ;D just to scare the sheeples.

Nah, I bought this one with lawn mowing money when I was 10 or 11. I'm leaving it the way it was when I bought it, first gun I ever paid for with my own money ($110 in the early '80s). Now, if I get into precision shooting, assuming .22 goes back to the 4% a round it should be, I'd consider getting a tricked out SS H-bar bolt gun for scary accurate. In fact its why I bought the QD rings for the scope so I could move it around. We'll see what ammo prices do. If they keep up like this I might say frak it and go with a serious .22 pellet rifle for accuracy. I can still shoot those for less than 2% per round and hit a golf ball at fifty yards. I can do a whole lot better if I upgrade to PCP and spend a few more bills. The gun's cost will be offset by virtually free ammo and no regs, and any small game/varmint I can kill with .22 LR I can take out with a 1000fps or better .22 pellet rifle. I'd think they'd be popular in Oz for those reasons.
