Well, I was suffering from insomnia last night and browsed the Cabelas web site. I know better, but I did it anyway. I wound up buying what looks like a pretty nice fly tying kit, complete with wooden box/desk, for 30 bucks on sale. I've tried to tie flies before when I was in college and they looked like something put together by a spastic 5 year old with too much elmers glue. However, since I'm not tying trout flies I figure I can manage streamers and also tie my own bucktail jigs for spin fishing. How hard can it be ;D? What I need is a source for materials as we don't have a fly shop in town and the big boxes don't really carry much in the way of tying materials. If anyone knows a source I'd be obliged.

If Orvis doesn't have it, you probably don't need it...

There's lots of fly tying material on e-bay. That's where I got stuff to get my grandson going. Then the additional things he needed we got from the local Orvis store with one of their $25 off a $50 purchase.

pretty sure these guys will have what you need. Look for a local Trout Unlimited chapter. They sometimes have fly tying get togethers and are usually willing to lend a hand, as well as a good knowledge base.

We had a fly tying club in high school. Hope that helps. ;D
