Army Giving Up Stopping Power for 'Green' Bullets
(http://cdn.breitbart.com/mediaserver/Breitbart/Big-Government/2013/Guns/ammunition_reuters.jpg)
The Army is switching from lead bullets in many small caliber arms to "environmentally friendly" rounds in 2014, even through the lead bullets are tried and true while the stopping power of the "green" bullets is already being questioned.
The Daily Caller reports that the Army switched to a "green" round for its 5.56 mm ammo in 2010--these are the bullets used in an MP4 or an AR-15.
This ammo is referred to as an "Enhanced Performance Round" even though Fox News carried a report showing that Army testing shows the stopping power of the round is worse than expected "at less than 150 yards." Nevertheless, the Army is pressing on and making the 7.62 mm bullet "environmentally friendly" by 2014 as well.
The Army predicts "the use of green 5.56 mm and 7.62 mm ammunition could eliminate the purchase of 3,683 metric tons of lead between 2013 and 2018."

More lead for us

So, these kill the enemy less dead and in a more comfortable way while sprouting into Unicorn-Chow and rainbows if the shots miss?
Yeah. Sounds like a great idea to me.
Do you have to make mouth noises (bang, pow, kachow) when you pull the trigger?
Further evidence that the American male is becoming totally wussified!
I weep for my nation.

Yup, sums it up pretty good.

Lead poisioning is such a horrible way to die, even for the enemy. These new bullets are more humane.
If the damn hippies keep getting their say in this stuff, I fully predict that within the next 50 years guns will fire feathers and will tickle the enemy into submission. Then, they can be taken to a comfortable prison in the Caribbean where they will be free to practice their religion and propagandize from the safety of a climate controlled environment with 3 organic meals a day.

Don't you know, the purpose of the military is "social engineering".
I know this will be a shock to all of you who thought it's purpose was to kill people and blow sh!t up.
-
I guess that puts into perspective the DHS buying billions of the more effective rounds for their theater of opperation.
-
Does this means piles and piles and piles upon piles of surplus ammo to hit the market soon?
-
THey just need to use more DU stuff :) hell I would not lose one bit of sleep if we said the hell with the hague convention crap and started using expanding bullets.
-
The greenies must be behind this, yet those bone heads don't realize that lead occurs naturally in nature so what's the big deal of lead bullets
-
I get it! It's like we need to have "a kinder, gentler Army. Like when the Roman Legions were issued rubber spear points and arrowheads!

Excuse me while I don my tin foil hat.
Somewhere deep in the bowels of the Washington power structure, a new EPA directive is being crafted making all lead ammunition an affront to Mother Nature, and thereby illegal for civilian use after 10/01/13.
Meanwhile, a major Obama campaign contributor was approved for a Government grant of $26,345,000,000 to build a new factory to manufacturer bullets out of Play Dough. The bullets will be hand formed, and the plant will provide one hundred thousand jobs for unskilled people who can't tie their own shoes. :D

That's it in a nutshell!! I wonder if Solyndra will be involved in production or at least supplying energy to the manufacturing facility..

Yeah, I've seen the kind of destruction that stuff can leave in it's wake..
It can rot engine components, starve millions and bring entire civilizations to their knees for want of energy!
Lots of destruction all around us from those things..

No exposed lead. Would they be legal for the military to use? Or are hollow points banned?

If you take the time to scratch a little deeper than sensationalist media, that IS what they're using.

Here is the story about the new ammo.

All part of the plan, guys, lighten up! ::)
After all, it worked so well for NASA going "green". OK, so it got the Columbia crew killed due to the new "green" insulation on the tank breaking off at liftoff and dinging the tiles on the shuttle. But hey, it's a small price to pay for saving Mother Gaia, no?
Besides, it's another step in the plan to weaken and disable the US military, thereby reducing its effectiveness abroad and - hopefully to our betters in DC - at home as well. Anyone else note that the DHS got their ammo orders in before the "green" initiative?
