Yesterday at the range, the Range Officer brings in these fired cases from a 7.62x54R Mosin Nagant, about 12 in all. Everyone of them have this hole in them, almost like someone had drilled the hole, but you could tell they had not as the holes where not perfectly round. As he told the story, he was watching this dude shoot the gun and out through the receiver is this big ball of flame. So he runs down there and asks him what the hell is going on. Dude acts like he doesn't have a clue what the RO is asking! So, the RO picks up those shells and asks him again, and asks don't you see that big ball of flame when you shoot the gun? The guy says no, but then he tells what the deal is. Turns out, the guy tried to drill and tap a scope base on to his rifle, and drilled down into the receiver. When that didn't work out for him, he put JB weld into the hole thinking that would hold. Apparently, when he fired the gun the cartridge gave way just where that little hole was, spitting flame way up in the air! All I can say is, that guy is one lucky SOB that the Mosin Nagant is one hell of a strong rifle, or he might not be here with us now! Needless to say, the RO made him stop shooting that gun! Like I said, just when I think I have seen everything at the range, someone has to prove me wrong!

Jb weld wow, I saw a srew back itself out after some one did that, it was tapped, and then dressed with a file. It was pretty damn impressive actually.

Had a friend text me. photo of cartridge attached and ask if I ever saw a piece of brass with a hole in it. He bought the rifle from someone and this was his first outing. A Mosin Nagant. He asked in some armory had drilled the rifle so reloaders could not re-use the brass. I ask him if it had a scope on it, he said yes. I told him someone had most likely drilled through the chamber attempting to mount it. When he got home he found there was indeed a tapped hole into the chamber, no screw in that hole. I gave up saying "I've seen it all" after a few years in LE, someone always proved me wrong.

I think a screw with JB Weld might actually be workable....not on my rifle but on his!

Jbweld goes away when it gets hot. the high temp thread lock might work. me I would like to see tig or silver soalder.

if the hole is threaded use a grub screw with thread locker. Leave protruding a smidge, file smooth, apply cold blue and sell the bloody thing!

Just when you think you've made something that's idiot proof, they invent a better idiot.
