The only difference with the NY version is the criminal gets the right to shoot you then sue you for not retreating.

The NRA is reporting that Governor Hoeven signed the Castle Doctrine.
The law still reads that there is an obligation to try to escape, but it is a change from duty to try to escape, but it does protect the resident from any wrongful death lawsuits if God forbid the resident has to defend the household from a bad guy.
