Title: Sellier & Bellot ammo
Post by: DaverZ on September 26, 2013, 08:31:37 PM
Has anyone had any trouble with this brand of ammo? I took my new Ruger SR45 to the range the other day,it shot Armscorp ammo and some hollow points I had laying around beautifly however when I switched to the Sellier & Bellot they wouldn't fire, dented the primer but not enough to ignite it.I'm thinking bad (hard) primers.I contacted the company, still waiting on a response,I also contacted Ruger and talked with them about it,they suggested I try another brand of ammo before possibly sending it in .I've not got to the range again yet but have since cleaned the striker and striker channel.I can empty the gun and put a pencil in the barrel and pull the trigger and send it about 6 to 8 inches in the air,one of the reasons I don't think it's the gun.Anyway, has anyone had trouble with this ammo brand, any thoughts? All input greatfully appreciated. ??? ???

question,  is the dent the same size in the ones that went bang as it was in the others?   could be crude in the firing pin hole., its happen before.

Used in 9mm and .223 and never had an issue with it, .223 is a little more oomphy than most though.

<tongue-in-check>  Obviously Czech ammo requires a CZ gun.  Duh. </tic>

Why is it .45s seems to give the most problems, both ammo and guns.  Most of the failures I've seen at matches have been with .45s.  Even at the Glock match I saw people having trouble with that nearly "perfect" pistol.

That said and out of my system.  I always thought of S&B as high end stuff.  Stuff you bet your life on.  Stuff you took on Safari.  Lately though, I'm thinking some of their stuff, especially pistol ammo, is more of a "value" proposition.   I wonder who makes their primers?  They use to make percussion caps, I wonder if they make their own.  Or is it Tula?

I've never had any problems with it at all..
I've also got three unopened cases of it in "the armory" back there that's under a year old.. I hope it doesn't have the cooties described above!!!  :-\

I'll weigh in on the "plus" side of this question.

I've shot the stuff for years in a wide variety of guns.  Never had a failure to feed or a misfire with any of them.

I have had recurring problems with Blazer ammo (who hasn't?) in my Glock 27.  I don't use that (or Wolf, or Golden Bear) anymore.

And I had some difficulty getting my Glock 27 .22 LR conversion to cycle properly.  Just needed more lubrication.  Once that problem was addressed, the cycling difficulty went away.

S & B has worked every time I've shot it.

And I like the Christmas colors on the boxes.

I've had great luck with S&B in the past, but the gun so far shot all I put in it other than the S&B

{hand waving} Me. Thousands of rds in Glocks, Sigs, Colts and Smiths without a hiccup.
I actually prefer Blazer disposable at the range. Sweep it out of the way and done with it.
Stuff I want to reload gets shot out in the desert where I know I'm getting my brass. (I don't do range pickups)

I haven't shot any S&B since the 90's.

Ahh, you guys know how it is .
2 identical guns with the same ammo, one may prefer it over any other while the other hates it .
But not working at all  I'd think about hammer weight or spring strength.

 8) I have put a couple 100 S&B .380ACP through my Ruger LCP and it ran perfect.  Good Brass too. I reloaded much of it.

I like Blazer ammo too but I had one seriously bad round. It didn't have an extractor groove on it. I caught it while loading my mags so it didn't hurt anything. Otherwise it's been good ammo.

I haven't tried the S&B ammo yet.

I think I've ruled out the ammo,it shot fine in my glock36,on top of that the mag disconnect stopped working so back to Ruger it goes as soon as I can get a shipping label.

One reason why I will never buy a gun with a mag disconnect.
I want parts inside that make the gun WORK, not parts that are designed to make it fail.

Mag disconnects are not a bad thing per say, they have saved many  leos.  Yes, they can go bad, but  so can anything else.   for me its no big deal one way or the other.  Others view them diffrently.  I do disagree with some states making them mandatory.

Sent it back to Ruger today with a note telling them the problems, they told me I'd have her back in 7-10 days, counting the minutes already, when it worked right it shot like a boss,I'm sure it will be top notch when I get her back.

Ruger has really good Customer Service. I'm sure it'll be better than new when you get it back..

I've been a big Ruger fan for many years, since I inherited a New Model Blackhawk someone tried to cut the 7 1/2 inch barrel into a 2 inch barrel.I sent it to Ruger,I think it cost me a whopping 39 dollars to rebarrel it.When It came back it was like a brand spanking new gun, they even sighted it in and it was a very accurate gun.BTW it was a 44 mag.
