Dear Sears,

What the hell is this?

David, I thought you might be interested in my experience getting new tires at Sears today. They have WIFI so I thought I would do a little shopping since it is payday. Turn out they block Midway and Brownell's because of "Weapons." Ironically, they don't block Dick's, which also sells weapons and has a store in the same mall.  See the attached screen shots.

I mentioned my dissatisfaction to the salesman, but he was pretty dismissive. Since the tires were already installed there wasn't much I could do. I do plan to contact management and express my dismay and explain to them that next time I need service I'll be checking their WIFI access first. No access to "Weapons," no business for Sears.

I wrote Sears off many years ago...

I was out of work for a month back in 1976 and missed a payment.  We got  nightly calls about it and after explaining I had job interviews lined up, she still kept calling asking us if we could sell our car or furniture to make a payment.

Next they were involved in ripping people off with phony problem  found when cars were brought in for service.

And lastly, there were some regulations going in about caps on credit card interest rates and just before it took effect, Sears raised the rates on their cards by 8%.

Here's something I learned tonight about Dicks. They own the new Field and Stream stores that are popping up. I guess the plan is to push the outdoor market to Field and Stream so they won't be selling guns and "politically correct sporting equipment" under the same roof. Wouldn't want the soccer moms to have put up with any uncouth gun buyers.  No reason for me to go to any of them.

It's funny that where I work (hospital) a lot of sites get blocked for "weapons" but we can still look at gunbroker. I guess someone in IT is a fan.

Ever stop to think it might not be Sears specifically, but the vendor they use for the firewall software?  That stuff is configurable, but most IT guys are lazy and just use the defaults until someone has them change it.  All that stuff comes from corporate as a package, or is run by a central hub.  That would be why the hospital one allows gunbroker but not other sites.  Its managed locally and someone went in to change the settings.

While "weapons" is a block genre at the school, MidwayUSA isn't on the list.

This was actually my first thought when I read the story.. Then yelling at the schmuck hocking tires will get you about what you might expect from someone in that slot..
I hate even going through Sears to get to someplace that the wife wants to go in the mall somewhere. (I loathe the entire mall, for that matter.) Sears hardware/pickup area generally has the best parking spots though.. I feel like I've got to shoot my way through there to keep from getting Duck Taped up and dragged into "Appliances" and tortured for a completed Credit Card Application..  >:(
