Title: Torso Hits Don't Always Stop the Fight
Post by: PegLeg45 on October 04, 2013, 04:13:02 PM
They may kill the guy.... but it may happen later on.

Apparently, the cop made a good chest hit, but the guy didn't go down, and instead drove off with his kids before expiring later.

A lot of factors at play, but it shows that on any given day things don't always pan out according to training.

Oregon Trooper Shot During Traffic Stop

Posted by Breaking News on YouTube - (Oreganlive) Oregon State Police Thursday released a dramatic video showing the gun battle that unfolded in August on Interstate 84 about 100 miles east of Portland, ending in the death of a Portland motorist.

The freeway confrontation lasted only moments, according to the patrol car video from the Aug. 29 episode. The video, released to The Oregonian after a public records request, starts as Trooper Matt Zistel stops a Cadillac driven by John Van Allen, 34. Allen had three of his children with him that afternoon as he pulled over near Biggs Junction.

The video shows Allen stepping out of his car and assuming a military pose. After Zistel repeatedly tells him to get back in his car, Allen pulls a pistol from his waistband, advancing on Zistel and firing. The video doesn't show Zistel.

After shots are fired, the video shows Allen returning to his car and driving off. He was shot in the chest but the video shows no obvious injury.

Zistel radios, "Shots fired" and then moments later, "I've been hit in the side. I'm okay."
Responding officers found Zistel suffering a gunshot wound. They found Allen's car a half mile down the freeway, parked on the shoulder. Allen was dead, shot once in the chest.

Zistel was treated for his injury at a hospital in The Dalles and released. He has been on administrative leave. Zistel, 26, has been with the agency five years.

In a subsequent investigation, Sherman County District Attorney Wade McLeod concluded Zistel was justified in shooting Allen.

Relatives said Allen was returning to his native South Carolina at the time of shooting. They said the aggressive action was out of character. He moved to Portland from Pittsburgh. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve as a construction engineer from 2009 until 2012.

Head shots, hit them in the little head (pelvis area) and they can not pursue you They WILL however still be able to shoot at you.
Hit them in the big head and it's "game over".

TOm, i wittnised( and testafied) some shot in the head (forehead)3 times at point plank range, buy a 38/357  about 6 feet from me. All 3 shots failed to pentrait the skull and just left him bloody.   the shootee was  fine and was alive for a few more years until he was killed in another gang shooting.    so head shots are not always game over

Gabby Giffords was shot in the head point blank and survived.  80% of handgun shooting victims can survive IF they can get the kind of care Gabby recieved as fast as she got it.

To paraphrase a Doc, whose video I saw here via a link- If more shooting victims were shot with a rifle our job would be a lot more boing.

Larger target with Lincoln and much worse medical care.  IIRC he survived quite a few hours before succumbing to his wound.

i remember watching a documentry about it, from the testing they did, some of the things the doctors did actually made it worse.

Doctors possibly kill more people than guns..... I guess that's why they call it a license to 'practice'.

The really sad part iss how much protection the doctors have from both legal and each other.  From my understanding much like car insurance claims, 90% of claims are made by 10% of the people.    i do know ob/gyn clains are 10 to 1 against all other doctors.

Because their on the hook for 18 years +1. (in my state at least) Quite a few hospitals don't have Labor & Delivery anymore.
If your kid is a dip$#!+, some bottom feeder wants you to file suit because they can find something in the birth medical record to hang on the doc saying "This caused brain damage!".
Lord knows it couldn't be because the kid is just a dip$#!+.
