CT Cops Seize 69-Year-Old’s 274 Legal Guns and Charge Him with 17 Felonies
A Connecticut man found himself in the crosshairs of his state’s anti-2nd amendment policies for simply having too many guns and being a rocketeer. Police raided the home of Joseph Callahan, 69, on Monday and charged him with 11 counts of illegal possession of explosives and six counts of first-degree reckless endangerment after finding 274 guns in his home in Fairfield Connecticut. Callahan is a gun aficionado who collects guns and is also a retired chemist who is an amateur rocketeer. And according to the NY Daily News “at least some of the chemicals found appeared to be for his rocketry hobby.” I’m guessing that all of those chemicals were used for his hobby. Callahan’s attorney Richard Meehan said that his client is harmless and had no intentions of doing anyone any harm. He is simply a gun collector who also happened to work for DuPont as well as gunmaker Remington Arms, which is how his attorney says he acquired most of his guns.
--------------------------------
So how did this gun collector end up on the wrong side of the law? He reported a burglary at his property, and that’s when the authorities made the shocking discovery which resulted in the property swarming with police, fire and Hazmat units.
-------------------------------
Callahan’s entire collection was seized and the 69-year-old was taken into custody but was allowed free in lieu of bond with the condition that he help officials sort out the scene, since they didn’t even know what they were looking at, apparently.

A happy ending for once (sarcasm)
This only turned out half as bad as it might have.
Others innocent civilians have ended up shot to death when cops get confused.

Lots of missing info here.
-
Politically motivated overreaction.
-
Only thing I saw missing was confirmation that all the chemicals where for use in rocketry....and if not that they were illegal

maybe not tom, we don't know what the house looked like. If you walked into my garge right now and saw what i had on my reloading bench you could very easliy get the wrong idea. i have several types of powder, a box of diffrent size nipples of black iron pipe, fittings.( all 1.5" and 2 ") It would be real easy to look at that and go, oh he is making pipe bombs. Where as in reality, I just have the box sitting there becuase i was making them becuase I am upsizing the gas piping in the house in preperation for a up coming remodel thats going to enovle raidant floor heating sysem in a bathroom, larger gas range and have options for things like a tankless water heater( doubtful it will ever be installed as I doin't care for them, but its like $100 more in pipe to go up a size, so its worth it)

I will sleep much better tonight knowing that 274 guns are not going to be on the street as well as all the chemicals he had in his residence. Let the BAFOONERY continue!

What is the guy supposed to be, a "suicide thruster"???

Nothing missing TAB! The Gestapo is running to show. I have gone off on this in other threads, so you won't get the full blast today. However, I will rant that it is time for somebody to remind the police that they are not our saviors, and they have no right to take the extreme measures they do. As American citizens we are not going to live our lives within their dictated vision of proper. We will live our lives in line with the Constitution of the United States as amended with the Bill of Rights.
You talk about your reloading bench TAB: The local Sheriff's Department could walk into my shop and not recognize that I have the ability to build a crude "Liberator" handgun all set up. And guess what; the difference between building handguns and hog barn water units can not be noticed.

He had guns. He had it coming. They owed him a hard time and he's lucky they didn't shoot him to make an example.
Think of the children!

He has been charged with 11 felonies, but was not planning to blow up Kieth Richards.
Taking exception to a New York Daily News report released Friday (see below), Fairfield police say the 65-year-old town man arrested Monday after authorities found bomb-making materials in his home never was suspected of targeting Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards.
Rather, police tell Patch, Joseph Callahan of Bronson Road made "an off the cuff remark about building some sort of device for Keith Richards because he heard Keith Richards liked fireworks."
