Arkansas man robbed, shot dead after asking for directions in Chicago

Police say an Arkansas man was shot dead in Chicago by a man he stopped to ask for directions.

The shooting occurred early Thursday. The Cook County medical examiner identified the victim as 55-year-old Robert Franklin of Blytheville, Ark.

Police spokesman Officer Jose Estrada says the man Franklin asked for directions climbed in the backseat and robbed Franklin and a cousin at gunpoint, according to CBS Chicago.

Estrada says the suspect left the car and then shot Franklin four times in the back.

The station reports Franklin's cousin drove him to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where he died.

Estrada says no one has been taken into custody in connection with the crime. Detectives are trying to determine where the shooting occurred.

Violent crime is down in Chicago compared with last year, when homicides surged past 500 for the first time since 2008.

wow 500 in a year,  there are states with less.  Hell there are towns with 100k+ that have never had that many.

He asked for directions and let someone in the back seat? Then he was able to drive to the hospital?
BTW, it was 0400.

Something tells me dope deal turned robbery.

What the heck are you saying, man?

Now we all know Chicago is the cleanest city in America......... no guns.......... certainly no dope...... just civic-minded citizens.

My guess is that the shooter just came from a gun show in Cleveland where  he Loop Holed an Assault Revolver and then went to Chicago and besmirched the city's pristine image...proving Bloomie right after all.

Actually, the drug deal gone bad might have some merit too.
