Thought this was a cool tid-bit of Americana.......

The Forgotten Giant Arrows that Guide you Across America

If you’re ever really lost on a road trip across America, and I’m talking really lost (let’s say the battery on your smartphone just died along with that compass application you downloaded for situations just like this), perhaps you might be lucky enough to find yourself next to one of the giant 70 foot concrete arrows that point your way across the country, left behind by a forgotten age of US mail delivery.

Hell, some of those early air mail pilots would fly low so they could navigate by the road signs.
That's why cities painted their name on water towers, so the air mail pilots could figure out where they were .  ;D

Maybe we should go back to that system, it would make this story more explainable.

http://www.examiner.com/article/plane-lands-at-wrong-airport-now-stuck-runway-too-short-for-dreamlifter-takeoff

A jumbo jet landed at the wrong airport and now it is stuck. The giant Dreamlifter cargo jet landed about 10 miles off course at a small airport and the reason it is stuck is that the airport doesn’t have a runway long enough for the jet to takeoff, according to ABC News on Nov. 21.

The Atlas Air Flight 4241 landed at Colonel James Jabara Airport, but the747 Dreamlifter should have landed about 10 miles away at the McConnell Air Force Base. Now the huge jet sits on a runway that falls short about 3,000 feet of the length needed for the cargo jet to takeoff.

That airport has the opposite situation than Detroit.

Detroit is the only city in the US with more departing flights than arriving flights  ;D

HI;

   Nice photos,  we have to remember that we are here because of those images and people that put them there...When America was the greatest - beause of its people. It is up to us to carry that Honor and of duty, sacrifice and commitment...

     I say that we need to get rid of all the Irish and Catholics...later on get rid of the chinks and wop's ...so that us wasps can control what the native indians had before the Vikings...

Yes, other than being 1/2 Irish, at least I'm not catholic...

Can I stay?
