Title: Too report or not report.
Post by: TAB on December 02, 2013, 01:41:25 PM
lets just say you know several "world level"  athleates and thier coach.    they are activly using drugs(toegther) as well as the coach and one of the athleates have been in a relationship( as in living toegther, totally against every policy in the book)    the local non profit is not doing shit becuase the coachs mother( seriously)  does not think any of this is a bad idea.    would you report it to the sports ngb, usada(anti doping) or the usoc?         generally i don't care what people do behind closed doors, but when you are breeding a enviroment of drug use in sports i see that as a huge issue.   further more complains filed to both the coachs, officals and supporting agencys locally have resulted in "so what?"   ( once again mamas in charge)   if this was a for fun group, i could careless, but when its a world level( and traveling on our tax/ donated $$$)  as a former world team member, ncaa 2 coach and  ref  i have real issue with it.    one would think usada would take care of things...

Well, TAB, I agree with you on this one about "They accepted the rules when they joined the team".

Following those rules does not diminish their rights and the rules, for the most part, look to be geared to keep a fair playing field and avoid favoritism and/or coercion among coaches and athletes.

At least part of this not obeying the rules is cheating other competitors.....and even if "everyone does it" it's still cheating and wrong.

If they're smoking weed I wouldn't bother reporting it, you are not their keeper.
If they are using performance enhancing stuff, that actually is cheating and should be reported.

Tom, if it was a hit once or twice or as a release i would say, who cares.  But when its roll out of bed, roll a joint, take a shower, take a hit, and its getting high 5 or 6 times a day,  then there is an issue.  Same when its promoting a culture of getting high were entire groups of athleates go to events just to get high and party.    this is not a group just doing it for fun, but competative groups traveling the world on our dime.  The fact that the coachs are there getting high as well is way over the line.   the rules are very clear.  Some of the meds rules can be hard to fallow( example a lot of over the counter stuff is illegal), but the illegal drug rules are very clear and easy to fallow.

Eventually, they'll get caught...

Now, do our tax dollars pay for the half million condoms we supply to the Olympic athletes?  That's something to bitch about...   ;D

Young people get high, plain and simple and professional athletes have become the roll models for amateurs.  Whatever the A-Rods, Clemens, Armstrongs, Johnson, Gay, et al are getting away with, the young people will try as well but eventually, they'll get caught...  Might take years though...  It's one of the reasons I don't give two shits about sports anymore.

THats just it usada is a joke.  They are supose to check you every quater, but generally its only at major events  and its only piss.   which is why no one really gets cuaght.   the otc is full of drugs and partying.  So much so that most of the serious athleates move off of campus.   its also sad that much like the bigger college sports( basket ball and foot ball) a large % don't get thier degree, even though school is FREE!   we are paying for it, to the tune of about 100k per year per person.   its really a joke.

well went a head and reported it,  usada was a joke(shock of the world),  the president of  ngb was very intrested as was the 2 colleges that allow them to use thier faciltys.  As was the usoc.   funny how droping line to people that you have known for decades gets things done, where a phone call to the "right persons" does not do shit.

It is one thing when you are trying to live within unjust laws and rules.  However, if these people are ignoring an agreement they made as a condition of their position there is no excuse.  The only thing I will caution you on TAB is are you 100% certain of what you are accusing them of?  More damage is done by carelessly reporting or inaccurately reporting than by the offense itself.  Don't ruin a life wrongly, but don't let someone ruin someone else or the organization by letting them break the code.

m58, i have seen it, taken pictures and even video.  Its a very much on going thing.   the sport i am talking about is litterly spilt down the middle between those there to party and those there to compete/ have fun.(actually playing the sport, not partying)  the coach moving in with some one he coached, really blew my mind.   i have no doubt they really care for each other, but thats not something a international leve coach does.  More so when i have donated time, money, airplane tickets, used my "network" to set up places for them to practice/ host fund raising  etc etc.     it has to stop.  Usada is not doing shit, the locals are not doing anything( mommy runs then)  so i finally said enough and talked to the presidents of thier ngb  and several high level members of the usoc( all of which i have known for years)  as well as reported it to the risk managment departments of the schools they use as well as the municaplaitys that fund them.    As a former athleate, coach and training partner for several peop.

You make your own call TAB, but I was not welcome at our local range for quite a while because I stood up and chased a good old boy out for breaking out his cooler full of beer while trap was still going on.  Sometimes we need to decide where we reside within the gray area, and sometimes the world is black and white and you must decide which side you are on.

You have to make the call, and you have to live with your decision.  None of us are the ones looking back in your eyes when you shave, and neither are those you are concerned about.

its not a sport i play or even would want too.  The culture of the sport sickens me.   you know its bad when you go to a partice to help out  and people are activly trying to get you to take a hit. Then there was the other group that was comparing their sober chips and finally the group that was there to play the sport.    the ones getting high were national and world level.   the people with the chips were there to enjoy the sport and the ones there to practice were new.    the practice was run by international coach and a national level judge for the sport.( i did not know that at that time)      that was the 1st and last time.   i should have right then and there reported it to campus police and every one else i have spoken too this week.  I didn't, that was my laspe in judgement.    i do not drink smoke or do drugs.   i never have done drugs and never will, the same with smoking.     it should also be pointed out most of these people are in thier late 30s early fortys with a handful in thier 20s.

i have been thinking about this more and more.   its time to put my foot down and say "no more"   i am going to  make it my mssion to ensure this is not just swepted under the rug and that things are taken care of.   I will start using my connections and my time  to go see those that break the rules punished.  Let the cards fall where they may.

The rules are very clear and easy to fallow.  I am hoping on a plane monday to co to have a meeting with their NGB president, after that i am going to make sure all faciltys they are using are well aware of whats going on.   I have a plan of attack(yes attack) and i will excute it.   If i clean up just one  group, it is well worth my time and expense.  I really have spent way too long with my mouth shut.  I have watched way too much talent been destroyed.  No more.   it will be my mission from now on to insure sports are played fair, clean and by the book.

Nope, i am clean of the entire deal. My only sin was biting my tounge for too long.   did lose a friend over it, but honestly that friendship was lost long ago, no regrets here.    i was thinking about this today, just from the people i know envoled, its not just 1 sport, but  5.   4 of the people compete in other sports, some at low level, some at the oylmpic level.   It really is like cancer, it spreads every where and needs to be cut out.    i know things are going to get messy and alot of people are going to be hurt, but most of them did it too themselfs.   the ones that i feel bad for are the ones that were not envoled and just want to play the sport they love, i feel truly sorry for them.     the pres of their ngb is on it as he had no idea what was going on, i hope they do the right thing and not just sweep it under the rug.  That would be the biggest crime of all.   Its also something i will not stand for.   I am the best friend you could ever have, and the worst ememy you could make.

Something else i have found very intresting.   the NGB in question has a manditory reporting for all members of any violations, that include breaking the code of conduct, the law or puting others in danger.   all of the above has been happening.  Not just by members but paid officals and coachs.  I don't know about the rest of you, but if i would be pissed off if an out sider came to me  claiming violations of wide spread and ongoing violations, where none of the members reporting a damn thing, but they all signed the coc.  I would   set an example with a few heads on a platter.  Yes that maybe harsh, but when it comes down too it, if there is no punishment, no one will fallow the rules.

Pot is just a sympton.   trust me i have been far from impressed with how high level sports are handled in this country.  So many skeltons in the closet its not even funny.  There really is an attitude of we can do what ever we want and you will love us for it.(actually not just sports)  having trained at the otc in the late 90s early 2000s,  i don't even reconise the place any more.

THat is yet to be seen.  If i clean up just one sport, its worth it.
