Title: Forum layout has changed?
Post by: Solus on December 14, 2013, 11:51:30 AM
It appears the forum layout has changed...or have my settings just been fouled from what they were yesterday?

Did I miss a notice?

Take care.

It has changed.  Sometime last night.

Going to take some getting used to the way of seeing new posts since last visit.  We will see how long it takes to train this old dog.

Hey folks!

Yep, we did a long over due upgrade last night. The old forum software could not keep up with the overall security features on the server and other upgrades we are planning.

Like everything else that is new, it will take some time getting used to, but most of the features are the same.

If you have any questions, let me know.

Is there a setting/place/thingamabob that will let me know if I have a new PM?

On the home, help, search, profile, my messages, calender members, logout line...

don't mind a new layout and finding where every thing is, but it is the length of the page heading on the forum...

Scrolling wastes time and the long space between my Avatar and the messages I came to see is a pain.

right now, it is filled with an Ad on te right for Rapid Fire...so each time I want to look at the next message, I need to scroll down and get past that ad....a good way to get me to cuss at the particular topic of the ad.

I agree on the long header. This is on the to do list.

Same goes for PM alerts.

As Timothy said, if you have a new message, it will show up on the menu.

Example with one new message:

Home  Help Search Profile My Messages [1]

Thanks, Marshal...I should be saying thanks rather than complaining.

Take care.

Solus,

Another thing you can do to make the forum header smaller is simply to collapse it. To the far right of the area where it says "The Down Range TV Forum", you see a white arrow up icon. Click on it and the header area will be hidden.

Marshal, thanks for all you do to keep this place in shape.  The upgrade is nice and I appreciate your efforts.

You're welcome and thanks for being here.

One more feature is just added. In your profile settings, you can add your Facebook and Twitter ID. Icons will be added to your profile and visible in your posts under your avatar.

Click profile on the menu and then select Forum Profile to modify it. The Social media fields are at the bottom of the Forum Profile modification page.

I'll complain!  ;D This color scheme is terrible. Hard on the eyes (for me anyway) and not enough contrast. I also miss the "recent posts" section on the forum home page.

That about covers it.  ;)

Marshal the software/security upgrades are a pain.  The way you personalized the old board was amazing and took a while.  Rome wasn't built in a day....your personality will emerge on this board as time goes on.

The important thing is that you get out and shoot some and work on this when you can...oh, and take care of any honeydoooo's you may have.

If you ever get a chance there is one thing...the last posts at the bottom of the main forum page were a good thing to have....  ::)

So I just had a thought...happens every so often, sorry.  Marshal what do you and you other guys think about an AR-15 build thread/page?  America's rifle....I haven't thought it through but I'm thinking about the Brownell's AR-15 builder...not that we need that but somehow have a thread/page that subdivides into lowers & uppers...then we could have observations/discussions on trigger groups, barrels, sights, etc.  Yeah I know there is arfcom...but it's a pretty impersonal place with "experts" that drift in and out with all measure of bad and good advice...I think this is a more stable environment that allows discussion about differing ideas in a more polite atmosphere.  OK, OK...just a thought going on here, nothing more......I'm already going with the Magtech lower, Wilson Combat single stage trigger for a carbine, Noveske sights, a Wylde chambered barrel by Wilson, etc...etc...etc....

Rastus,

You know me too well.....  ;D

I have been known to make changes on every software I am dealing with..... one reason being that they all come with certain defaults which cannot please everyone, the other being the practical or impractical elements of it. This is also why programmers hate me.... and to some extent, I don't like them much either.... I just deal with them.

Yes, this forum will be tweaked in the weeks and months to come and when time allows. Any input is appreciated good and bad.

We also need to look at the different boards and see what we need. No problem adding an AR dedicated board. This board can later be split in sub boards if that is necessary. Stay tuned on this one.

On the left side of the screen there needs to be a beer tap, and on the right side a Crown dispenser.  With those two items up and working I'll be just peachy keen and never complain again  ;D

I admit to being a little slow, but I think I see something new:

Advertising added the threads.

What is this system going lead to?

Well, it works for me.  Let the sponsors pay for the site instead of us =)

Copy that....I seldom get a PM so having a heads up on the front page helps. Thanks!
And thanks for the upkeep on the site. Has to be a PITA with some blonde yelling in your ear.  ;D

Correct observation. I had to fix the tall header and moved the banner from that area to show inside the post threads. It's compromise....

The blonde hasn't been working on the forum yet. When that happens, your "complaints" will sound like compliments in comparison....   ;)

Here you have it. For now, let's call it:

Building America's Rifle
A board about building AR's - observations/discussions on trigger groups, barrels, sights, uppers, lowers, etc.

I actually saw this green color one time when I got sick on a plane after a weekend of recreational drug use and no food. The Chinese Red thing is good too..  :-\
