The SHOOTING GALLERY episode with John Ross — which is a real HUMMER! — runs 02/07 and 05/09. As usual, the contact information for John somehow didn't make it on the show. Q'uell surprise!
Here's John Ross' website: http://www.john-ross.net/ (http://www.john-ross.net/)
(http://ec2.images-amazon.com/images/P/1888118040.01._BO2,204,203,200_PIlitb-dp-500-arrow,TopRight,45,-64_OU01_AA240_SH20_SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg) (http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FUnintended-Consequences-John-Ross%2Fdp%2F1888118040%2Fsr%3D1-1%2Fqid%3D1170899977%3Fie%3DUTF8%26s%3Dbooks&tag=cascityinassociw&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=9325)
You can also get his classic book, UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCES, from Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FUnintended-Consequences-John-Ross%2Fdp%2F1888118040%2Fsr%3D1-1%2Fqid%3D1170899977%3Fie%3DUTF8%26s%3Dbooks&tag=cascityinassociw&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=9325):
I'm going to do a special feature on John's upcoming custom .500 Magnum from the S&W Performance Center here on DOWN RANGE as soon as they're available (and, yes, I'm sure I'll have one to give away here).
John just called me up to say he watched the episode at his favorite bar in St. Louis, and that everyone was blown away. The bartender (who, John mentioned, is "cute") asked him to take her out shooting machineguns. All in a day's work!

Just saw the show on John Ross on SG- outstanding show and a real pleasure to be able to see and hear from John! I have read his book several times, visited his website and emailed him a couple of times over the years and it was good to put a voice and personality to the man. Once again an example of the cutting edge programming that is Shooting Gallery. By the way how are things agoing for next season? I sent an email to the Outdoor Channel advocating for SG; really want that show back for next season.
-
Ditto on John Ross...he's here in St. Louis and I have attended several of his events in the past...I honestly believe he has the best interests of gun owners at heart and his machine gun shoots are a blast!!...I'm Tivo'ing the show now and will watch it later tonight...and just to show my support for Michael, I won't skip through the commercials ;D

I think the John Ross episode is one of the best episodes ever (as was the Rauch snubbie and Janich knife episodes!).
Unfortunately, SHOOTING GALLERY is, shall we say, up in the air. The Outdoor Channel opted to not renew my contract for 2007; they have since had a change of heart (thanks for those cards and letters, folks; you might want to keep them coming!) and we are talking about 13 episodes of SHOOTING GALLERY and COWBOYS in 2007 (as opposed to 26, as we've been running), but there is at this point nothing on paper.
There's also some other pretty cool opportunities out there — as Cartman would say, HELLA-COOL! — and as soon as the dust settled, I'll publish it here.
In the meantime, you're going to be seeing more and more original video on DOWN RANGE TELEVISION. I've been working on the CCW shows (http://link.brightcove.com/services/link/bcpid452320104/bclid595234649/bctid507831596) (my idea is that 3-4 5/7-minute videos = an "episode"), and they pretty much rock.
Hell, I figure I've gone too far to stop now!

Awesome show today! Now I find myself with an insatiable desire for an elephant gun though... ;)
Looks like you had a "blast" with all of those automatic weapons!
-
I agree! Today was one of the BEST shows you have done. Yous is one of the few shows that I even subscribe to The Outdoor Channel for. If your shows go, I cancel my subscription. I have told them so by phone and email.
I have John Ross' book, and haven't took the time to read, but it is on my table for my next read. Thanks for a great show, today, and past and (hopefully), the future.
-
That was a great show! I have Shooting Gallery set to record on my TIVO. So I watched it after I got home this evening, looked up your site, got your link to John Ross' website and to UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCES, from Amazon. Spent time reading ROSS in Range. Then went to Amazon to order the book.
Again, GREAT show. I hope to see lots more!

absolutely one of the best shows I have ever seen.Ross is cut form the same bolt of cloth as some of my favorite people , thanks.
We could use more like him, or more to step up like him Doug
-
Definately one of the best shows ever. When are those Ross S&W's going to be ready?
-
I thought it was pretty interesting. I'm going to have to check out the book now. I couldn't quit drooling when he whipped out the Thompson.
-
Great show, and good to learn more about John Ross.
But Michael, why didn't you shoot the elephant rifle? ;D

Couldn't get the cartridges to work! Those turned-brass one off rounds are a BEAR (so to speak) to make work...primer pocket depth issues!
Broke my heart...John said yesterday that the next time I'm in St. Louis, for sure...

Michael,
While I like all the Shooting Gallery shows, the one featuring John Ross was without a doubt the BEST program in all the years of watching the Outdoor Channel! I just got done emailing the Outdoor Channel
to tell them and to show support for Shooting Gallery and Michael Bane's interesting and informative
format in any show he is involved in.
I urge all the veiwers and forum members to contact the Outdoor Channel (http://outdoorchannel.com/company.cfm?ss=16&site=1) and let them know how much we enjoy this programming and ask them not only to continue Shooting Gallery and programs like it but to also expand on it and all such programming dedicated to the shooting sports.
Thanks to Michael and John for a GREAT half hour!
-
Thanks HBMan for the link. I just emailed Outdoor Channel and voiced my support for SG. I also wanted to say thanks to Michael for the link to JR's site. I am hooked! I'll be ordering UC today. BTW, I missed the episode with John on SG. I looked at Outdoor Channel and it seems I missed last chance to see it the other day. Is there any other way I can catch it? I'm going to email Outdoor Channel and see if they plan on replaying it again.

Hi,
If the Outdoor Channel doesn't change the season schedule, this episode will be aired again in May 2007.
-
Thanks Marshal. I was hoping for that. I think I'll just order the season on DVD.
-
Great episode, ordered my book---should be here in a couple of weeks. Hope the show (Shooting Gallery) comes back. Just wish Outdoor channel could put ALL my fav shooting shows on back-to-back-to-back----etc. Then, I can watch all at once or only have to tape 1 night instead of many. Tracy

Don't worry...if SG for some reason doesn't come back, like mushrooms on cow paddies, there WILL be a Michael Bane shooting show SOMEWHERE on your remote control...definitely positively on my word!

I recently saw the episode on John Ross, WOW!!! It was definitely the talk at the office. I hope shows like Shooting Gallery and Personal Defense TV live on forever. I've been waiting a long time for shows that talk about the reality of CCW and other related topis. The show on the .38 snubbies with Walt Rauch made me go out & put an order on a S&W 642 airweight. Keep up the good work guys!!!!!!!
-
I really, really liked this show. I mean....really cool.....like better than the .22 pistol show last year cool.
And...though I didn't want a .500 S&W before....I do now! I want one of those 1 out of 500 special editions that are being made. Put me on the list for transfer to Lash's Gun Emporium in Tulsa, OK when they come out!
I may have to put off that Advanced Armament purchase I was about to make.....do you have any idea what the upper price limits of the "John Ross Special" are or when we will need to put down our $'s ? I'd like to order my supressors and turn some barrels right now and if JR Special is too much or too soon I'll just have to pause on my AA purchase.
Thanks,
Ken

Great show, Michael! Guess I'll be buying John Ross' book now. And thanks to HBMan for the link. I have also voiced my support for SG.
-

Your shows are aimed straight at us guys who like to go out and shoot.. :)
I've got my TIVO set for a season pass of Shooting Gallery..
-
Thanks guys!
That's my modus operundi...when in doubt, go to the range and light something up!

Done. Thanks for the link!
-
and Michael I have to say, that remarkably huge grin you had on your face when shooting John Ross' machine pistol.................well.........................frankly, is disturbing............ ;)
-
I just added my 2 cents to the outdoor channel (for what its worth) to renew Shooting Gallery. Hopefully every voice counts! Best damn show on that channel. thanks MB Keep up the good wrk!
-
I ALWAYS grin when I shoot machine pistols! Who wouldn't??? For years there was rumors of a prototype Japanese .22LR machine pistol made mostly of ceramic and plastic and modeled on a description in a science fiction novel. It broke my heart that the rumors were apparently untrue. However, I've talked to the guys at TDI about taking a Kriss Super V downt o Blackwater and running it in the shoot houses there! Read about the Kriss here:

On another topic, I have dinner early next week with a top television exec, and I hope to be making a big announcement immediately thereafter.
THANK YOU ALL for your support! It has meant a lot.
Michael B
-
YEEEEEE HAAAAAAA That KRISS looks like fun!
One of the best parts of my 10 years in the Army was getting to 'play' with the toys. I was 54E (NBC) so we got to use the flamers too! ;D
Hope to hear good news from ya re: TV deal. Just wish your SG and DR programs were on my basic cable here. Where I am the Outdoor Channel is only on digital with a second tier package which would be a major (read expensive) upgrade for me. Do you think they will ever be available via simulcast on the net? I would gladly subscribe to that!
-
Definately one of the best shows ever. When are those Ross S&W's going to be ready?
Watch our report from the NRA annual meeting. John talks about the Smith & Wessons in this video:
Video Link (http://link.brightcove.com/services/link/bcpid452320104/bclid459256134/bctid769311229)
And for those who missed this SG episode, it aires again today on the Outdoor Channel at 4:30 PM EST, 8:30 PM EST and Thursday 12:30 AM EST.
-
I'm two thirds through "Unintended Consequnces" This is a great book that's been causing me to stay up way too late reading it. Highly recommended reading!
-
Thanks for putting together such a fun show! A good friend of mine had mentioned Ross' book and it was nice to put a face to a name. John seems like he's a really fun shooter to hang out with - which was translated in the show...you boys looked like you were having more fun than the law should allow! ;D That type of chemistry will always make for good TV. Throw in something that goes bang and you've got a hit.
That little Russian machine pistol - what was the name? - was the hit of the show. Who would have thought it out of an enhanced Makarov design?
Any more collectors out there who would be willing to let you shoot their possessions? It certainly is entertaining.
Thanks for a great program.
-
Michael - Thanks for such great shows!
I watched this episode previously, but found myself watching virginally again last night...
I've ordered John's Book, and look forward to a quick read!
Do you have any idea when his special run of S&W 500 are due?
Thanks again, Thunder25

Do you have any idea when his special run of S&W 500 are due?
The plan is to make them available at the end of the summer 2007.
-

-
Thanks Marshal - I will be looking out for the new 500!

I had heard of this book prior to the first airing of this episode. I ordered the book after I watched that and have to say it is one of the best books I have read. Watching this episode after reading the book enhances the experience. This book may change your perspective on gun rights, I know mine did. It helped strengthen my resolve to fight even harder for our 2nd amendment rights. An important book for the gun culture, a culture I am proud to be a part of.
