Title: Glock malfunction need help
Post by: Ranger Dave on January 19, 2014, 05:39:43 PM
Guys my Glock 21 I've had for 15+ years is having failure to eject problems. I am shooting federal 230gr. fmj and every 3rd round fails to eject, it has done this with all four magazines. I have cjeaned the gun as for as I can without taking the enternals of the slide apart. Any suggestions??

No buying a 1911 is not possible at this time ;D

RD,  there are is one and maybe two free upgrades to the G21.

One is a re-cut extractor slot and a new extractor.  I had to send my slide in for that.

They other, if it applied to the 21 (it applied to several, if not all, of my Glocks) was a replacement Trigger Mechanism Housing which also included a reshaped ejector.

Perhaps either one might be your problem.

They wanted me to send the frame in to have the Trigger Mech. Housing replaced but I told them, on the phone, that I was familiar with the process and would do it myself.  They sent the part.  I didn't want to go through the expense of shipping a "firearm" commercially.

Give them a call with your serial number handy and see if yours need the upgrade.

Good luck.

Send it back to Glock and they will fix the problem and most anything that is wrong with it, FOR FREE. ;D

They worked on my 19 two years ago. I sent it in for a cracked frame and they replaced that and added a new guide rod and spring, trigger connect, extractor and more without asking. It came back with the old barrel and slide and that was about it. Turn around was about three weeks.
Good luck,

Dave,

Check to see if there is a GSSF match in your area or close enough to get to.  You can call Glock and ask for GSSF office and they can tell you.  They have Glock armorers there to inspect and repair.

FWIW

:-X :-[Ranger Dave by failure to eject do you mean it pulls around out and it stays in the ejection port :'( :'( or the spent round stays in the chamber? Does it do the same thing if cycle by hand? Also does it leave any weird marks on the rim of the case, distortion etcetera. As already mentioned Glock will fix it for free , but as a Glock armorer, I would like to know the end result. Good luck sir ;)

Well Guys I took my pistol to my local gun dealer(Bartlesville Shooting Supply). The owner asked what the problem was, after I explained the issue he look at it and told me I had a chipped extractor. Ten minutes and $25 later the gun is fixed.

Tahnksfor all the responses.

M25 the spent case was being left in the chamber, didn't look at the rim of the spent case. The bottom part of the extractor had a chip of metal missing.

Great to see you back on the forum.

I had a G21 when they first came out. I had to replace the extractor 4 times in a two year period. Finally sold it. It functioned fine just chewed up the case rims whuch made it hard to reload.

I had the same problem with my Model 21 and sent it to Glock. Their service was preompt and it now is 100% reliable. Good luck, I'm sure Glock will take care of you 21's problem.

This is old information, but if your Glock is old too, you might want to check it out.

The free Extractor upgrade might have avoided some of the problems folks have reported here with their 21s.

When I first saw this I thought you may be limp wristing it but then I realized that you know what you are doing.

The reason I thought that was I spent last Friday night policing Speer 45 brass after a local PD shot night time qualifications at my gun club.  I found at least a couple dozen cases with the tell tale crease across the mouth and about 30 live rounds from either clearing jams or showing clear and reholstering.

1200 cases of 45 onced fired and 250 cases of 223 with crimped primers.  Not bad for two hours of crawling around in the dark and fog.  ;D

The most obvious solution hasn't been mentioned, (not even by your gun dealer).

Might be time to change the recoil spring!

Another thing:  If your G-21 is, indeed, 15 years old then it definitely has the old and unsafe #4256 trigger bar installed in it.  You really should have that pistol upgraded (I think that's the word Glock uses!) to the newer #4256-1 trigger bar.  If I were working on your G-21 I'd replace the SLB and EDP spring, too.
