Title: What is going on with the SR9?
Post by: cody6.0 on June 11, 2008, 10:01:58 AM
Does anyone here know what Ruger is doing with this recall program?

Luckly I live in a rural area so I can shoot freely but what about those who shoot in competitions or only have ranges where recalled guns aren't welcome they now have $450 paper weights.

I myself wanted to bu another full black SR9 but cannot thanks to this little issue.

NOTHING is going on with it...that's what's going on.
But then, no one wants to get me started again...

The manager at my local gun store told me recently that the recall was delayed, but should be started in the second half of June.  He seemed to imply that Ruger was overwhelmed with the logistics of the recall.  Not to mention the teething issues of the LCP, also made in Prescott (sounds like biscuit), AZ.

Ruger really needs to pay attention to this site. Because if they did they would figure out that your the one person who they really need to send that box too with a confirmed return date 1 week or less on your recall repair. Everytime someone brings this subject up. I know your going to responed to it. My heart goes out to you on this one. I know if it was me and this much time went by with out it being fixed. Well lets just say being pissed off wouldn't come close to discribing what my feelings would be. Hang in there.

I can understand the logistics problem...they are used to sending them out by the thousands.  Getting thousands in to repair while building more to stay in business is going to be quite a problem.  But then... we did not cause the problem.

I'll say it again, I can wait if I can get a really good and slick 4-1/2 lb trigger.  I'll even buy another (especially in compact and other calibers)...but a good trigger is the key to future sales for Ruger.

I'm really not one to piss and moan about stuff, but this issue has gotten to me and it's just not going to go away.
You are right, I will respond every time I see this issue, and unfortunately the only people who don't see the response is Ruger. I realize they're in a jam, but there's such a demand for the SR9, if they bought mine back, fixed it and resold it to someone reconditioned they would GREATLY increase the chances that I would buy another Ruger someday. Right now, ....aaahhh, not so much!
You also have to keep in mind that last December I bought a new GP161 that wouldn't fire correctly and they had THAT for 6 of the first 10 weeks I owned it.  Maybe I'm just not cut out to be a Ruger man.

One thing that really trips my trigger is the simple fact that I like to remain somewhat brand loyal. I drive all GM vehicles from a 2007 Corvette to a 2007 Silverado and it's the same with my guns with the exception of shotguns for obvious reasons.

After buying my 10/22 I was hooked on Ruger prducts and figured I would give them a go when it came to handgun choice. So I picked up a SR9 then when the LCP came out I picked up one of those too. Two weeks after buying the SR9 it was recalled and after 10 shots my LCP had serious issues. I sent the LCP in and it was gone for 4 weeks and now works fine but I still have a SR9 that is good for nothing other than plinking on my acreage. Sure it can still be used for home defense but it's the principal that matters.

I have a nerve problem with my left leg so I had to look for a light pistol, tryed glock but to big & heavy. Saw the sr - 9 , tryed it . I think ruger has come up with a good pistol, just needs to be refind a little, but that my opion. To me it shoots good & feels good in MY hand. Don't knock it till you try it ..

No argument with your assessment keith...I really like the pistol- it feels good, shoots good, all that. BUT....
It ain't right, right out of the box. It's just disappointing to buy something new from a company known for reliability and get a lame duck.

I wonder how many other pistols would fire if dropped with the saftey off? I always carry my SR9 with the safety on............great pistol..........

I myself would worry about any loaded gun shooting my ass if I dropped it. Then again I am also a clean freak and pefectionist so if I did drop it and it didn't shoot me I would be more worried about scratches and dirt.

The one thing I do see as assinine with this recall is how so many dealerships guns have been already repaired and sent back yet here I sit. Ruger should worry about people who own the gun before places that sell it. Rushing to fix a recalled gun isn't going to help them sell. Kinda pisses me off when a dealer has gotten twenty back and I haven't even got a box for my one yet.

Economics cody, economics.  Dealers can't sell a defective product...if the defective product doesn't sell the dealer can't order more and Ruger can't ship more to sell.  Once they have your $$$$$ they don't care as much about you as they do future customers.  Once I buy, they care less about me.  Once this is all sorted out customer service will get better.

I am beginning to think that if I don't get MY box soon, I'm going to take a long drive and throw my SR9 through Ruger's front window. I got mine in early March and it's been as handy as a hockey puck for most of that time.
RUGER CAN YOU HEAR ME???(Capitals intentional) I'm getting tired of this fellers. That's nearly $500 tied up in a rock with sights on it.
If they REALLY took care of a bunch of dealer stock before those of us who plunked down our money on their new super design...shame on them. If that's the case I think DRTV should seriously consider their Ruger sponsorship arrangement...how well is Ruger serving the DRTV community?
There I go again. Take my $500 and leave me with a pistol that's as useful as an open end wrench, and I start bitchin'...what a jerk. I should be excited that I'll be getting a new trigger someday and, even better, a FREE MAGAZINE.
If Ruger was really interested in their customers they would have already sent me the magazine so I could put it on my desk next to the SR9 paperweight...it would make a great paperclip PEZ dispenser!

I know, I know I just was hoping that Ruger would pull through for us like they have before.

It just really bums me out to think I stayed loyal to them since my 10/22, Mini Thirty, SR9 and LCP just like I stayed loyal to GM with my 20 or so Camaro's, GTO and my 2007 Corvette. I have watched GM go downhill at a steady pace but didn't expect a company like Ruger to follow suit.

Oh well there decisions on how to prioritize the SR9 recall will bite them in the ass. I love the SR9 and was going to buy a all black one to match my LCP but doubt I will now.

I'm still shooting my SR9 until I get my box. I don't use it at the range, don't want to scare anyone. Shoot it at the farm and ponds......great pistol, like it better than my Glock...........and I keep the saftey on until I'm ready to shoot my target............a little common sense goes along ways ............

??? What is wrong with the SR9 any way they said don't shot it . But my lady shots it on the weekends. It blew off the the table at Ben Averys and did not fire off. It flew three feet and fell two feet scared the living **** out of some poor fela. but I picked it up and shot it again and handed it back to my Lady. should I not let her shoot it?

Regardless, anytime a manufacturer sends you a notice saying DON'T,,, generally its gotten bad enough to do so. Whether we like it or not, be careful. When something goes wrong, the consequences can be too great, and happen to quickly. Sounds like you had one already.

Used mine at two IDPA matches and a couple of other range trips.  I've put a few hundred rounds through since the recall was initially announced, and carried it pretty much every day.

Not one single problem.  Gun goes bang only when it's supposed to.

My only concerns with the recall are:

Other than that, I'm good.

All I want to know is:

RUGER where the hell is my box?

If I go to one more gun shop with a stack of SR9's they just got back I am going to hand deliver mine.

This is a load of freash steaming BS if I have ever seen it, especially when I know for a fact that I signed up for the recall well before two of the places that have already got theres back. Hell two shops even had used guns sent in that are back already.

That's discouraging, but I'm not surprised. Maybe DRTV could forward some of these comments and complaints to Ruger. I tried sending them a letter and never even got a response.
I bought my SR9 in mid March and signed up for the recall the day it popped up here on DRTV. How can I NOT have areturn box yet?
I don't care how much I like that pistol, I'm not really interested in buying ANYTHING from Ruger again. If they really have processed all of those dealer stock first...what a load of crap!

When I was looking for another high capacity 9mm I originally thought of getting a second SR9 but this whole fiasco has soured me on Ruger.  I bought a FN FNP9 and have found a new true love.  Great ergonomics, nice trigger (DA/SA) and very accurate.  Too bad it's not as thin as the SR9.

I do recall seeing someone respond in one of the SR9 threads that he had gotten a box.  So far that is the only iindividual that I've heard of.

I suspect that once the trigger gets fixed my SR9 will be looking for a new home.  Kind of pity as I really wanted this gun to work for me.
