I was shooting at the range and I had bought this ammo several years back and it sounded bad about everyother rd and when I came home I found this video on the Net. Remington Thunderbolt sucks in my opinion. >:( ???

I only shoot jacketed or FMJ just for that reason.

rojawe,
Good posting. Thanks.
It is interesting to me because Thunderbolts are one of the rounds that work in my SIG Mosquito -- but I only shoot about 50 to 100 rounds per session and clean with a bore snake.
I will be watching for this problem in my .22 rifles also. I have noticed that they do not feed well in my AR7 already. I still have a bit of Thunderbolts to go through. I got a "deal" on it before I got another "deal" on the bulk pack golden bullets.
BTW Federal and Winchester lead bullets FTF and FTE in my Mosquito. But we have discussed the Mosquito problems at length on an earlier thread.
I am still waiting to see what MB has heard from SIG about the problems. I for one will for sure wait to hear the answer before I invest in one of the new SIG .22 conversions.

Does anyone else fine the cost of the Sig conversions equal to the cost of a new .22 pistol, and wrestle with the choice?
Mac.

Nope.
I would take the new gun any day of the week and twice on Sunday rather than beg SIG to make something other their 'P' series pistols run right.

I some how doubt the ammo did that...

Some one was saying that the Mosquito was made by some other Co. FOR Sig, Don't know how true it is. My buddy at Sig got fired :(
I some how doubt the ammo did that...
I don't THINK the guy took a crap in the barrel , and I don't know how else he would have got that much crud in there. From the video it sure looks to have the CONSISTANCY of fouling, my Buckmark gets the same type of crud after a coupke boxes,no where NEAR that extreme though.

Thunderbolts really are garbage. Back in my college days I used to fire them out of a Mk II 22/45. You can hear an audible difference between shots and after shooting a few hundred rounds it would lead my barrel badly. Cleaning would push out a sleeve of lead plastered on the inside of the barrel!!! I kept 2 bricks just as a reminder (and I sure was not going to shoot it through anything I owned). Subsequently my dealer said his tacticooled 10/22 shot the stuff well and I gave the last 1K rounds to him. Thank the Gods it is gone. Label me a CCI guy now. Std Vel or Minimags for fun Eley for score.
You get what you pay for....

one would think that after the 2nd round Key hold you would stop shooting an inspect the barrel. there must be 25 key holes in that target. the only way you could miss that is if your not paying attention... I'd also bet he got the barrel so hot you could not touch it...
What I'm saying is, what it boils down to... was the ammo bad? maybe, was this guy an idiot, yes he was.

I ran some Federal (about 350-450 rounds) through my new mosquito without problems.
Switched to the big box of Remington and it failed to go into battery many times....as in not shooting Remington in it any more.
They have a weak spring in them....I'm wondering if it could be a combination of spring force and bullet diameter?

I like the CCI minimags. The Fiocchi works good too. I shoot them in my S&W 22A

You must be young to be able to see so well AT 25 YARDS, and to be so all knowing.

I've had good luck with both those brands, Eley was accurate but required cleaning after 1 box

did you have your volume turned on? the reason why I asked is becuase he said he went thru 300 rounds., before things went south.
Now it does not say how long it took to go thru 300 rounds, or the distance at which he was shooting, but you go thru 300 rounds of any lubed lead bullet with out checking the bore for lube/ lead fowling... you get what you get.

I have gone thru 500 rounds of thunderbolt and Never had a problem Key hole ,FTF or other wise, have had day where we (4 others ) all tok .22's and used nothing but thunderbolts and literally littered the range with brass. Gentlemen that was well over 3000 rounds. Also had my Remington 580 single shot and could hit mini rams at 100 yards with the stuff. Winchester is another story as we could see lead going down range.
