I just saw this yesterday and was astounded. I never knew such a place existed.

Hi;
It is not just this place that holds historical items...The Outdoor channel did a show on Ft Benning and its storage of historical firearms IE; NIB B.A.R. ; machine guns and foriegn items as well.
At the Supply Depot I retired from was a climate controlled section @ 100' x 100' and it contained flags, these flags were from all different parts of Americas history and some foriegn items as well.
The caretaker of this section commented when interviewed by the base newspaper about the Civil War flags there with the holes and Blood on them. Most former Unit flags of the US Army are/were stored there. Many Army Division Flags that will never fly or be seen again due to ( hopefully ) this Country will never need to mass the Men to fight a war such as WW2 again.
How many more unknown/little known places are around this Country such as this post ? Many little Civilian/non profit museums are out there and need Visitors to pay admission to keep them going.
think of all the historical Items still in family hands that will never get to a museum and probably with time just get thrown out in the trash - because no one knows what they have in thier hands ?

Aberdeen proving ground has an armor museum .

I really like that museum at APG. They have a nice collection of military firearms including rare ones like the SPIW. I just looked up the museum and it said it's closed and won't reopen. It's just not in the budget. That sucks.

So when are they selling the museum's collection? ;D

The Springfield Armory is still open last I checked...
And, since it's a National Park as well, you can carry a sidearm while you take the tour...at least as a Mass resident!
No reason to move here though... >:(
