Title: Range Report
Post by: tt11758 on March 16, 2014, 04:26:59 PM
I spent all day yesterday at a gun show, recruiting students for future classes as well as recruiting members for the NRA.  Had a great day, and made a swap that I think I'm going to be happy with.

Since my Springfield Armory XDs 45 came back from recall I've been less than pleased with it.  The trigger pull isn't NEARLY as smooth as it was before, and the perceived recoil was markedly increased.  While at the show I traded it for a NIB American Tactical Titan 1911 with a 3" barrel, in .45acp.  (Yeah, I likes my ,45's, and I LOVES my 1911's).

Here's what the new acquisition looks like.......................................

To put size into perspective, here it is next to it's big brother, my full-size 1911......................

So I took it to the range this afternoon, and right out of the box came up with this grouping at 25 yards.................

It should be noted that the hole in the 7 o'clock position was the 2nd round fired.  I dropped it badly after the empty from the 1st round bounced off my forehead.   ::)

And while that target won't win me any IDPA trophies, it reminds me of something my daddy used to say, "It's dead, whatever it was."

Read Bill Wilson's report on short barrel 1911's and enjoy your new toy!

I expect you already are but remember, shorties have different requirements than full size 1911's!

Be happy....find peace....shoot straight....front sight, press, release...  Repeat as necessary

I have a lightly modified Colt LW Officers ACP that is one of my primary CCW pistols.  Feeds everything except the "Flying Ashtray"!  Barks a bit with +P.  I usually carry Federal 230 gr. HS and don't have a care in the world nor do I worry about what some say about short barrel .45's.

YMMV

Nice trade...something you were not fully happy with for something that seems to please you more.

Nice shooting too....

One question, was that first case damaged much?   ;D ;D

Very nice TT!!!

A chopped down .45 1911 is the only size that has eluded me over the years.

You and me both...all mine have been 5".
Everytime I look at a commander size 1911 I wonder why I never bought one - especially those "bobtail" types.
I guess it's just that the full size ones I have run & shoot so damn well!

How peculiar......My XDs came back with a much BETTER trigger pull.  I am so happy with it, that when I came across a good used XD in the gun shop, I picked it up.  I like that one, too.

One of my 1911's used to whack me in the forehead with empty cases on occasion.  You need to replace the extractor.  The extractor tension is wrong, too hard or too light, I don't know.  Just replace it, you'll be glad you did.

Griz

I hear ya...  Probably Wilson's close tolerances at play.  It was an interesting article anyway...

I love my Commander........it sees more action than my 5" 1911's.

I have several full-sized 1911 pistols, the one Commander, and a .380 Gov't (slightly larger than the Mustang .380). I would love to have an Officer's Model or Defender....along with a LW Commander.

Aw heck..... I'd take as many as I could get....alas, I do not have deep enough pockets.   :-\

A friend has a Rock Island Armory compact 1911 and raves about it.

The first case was only slightly less deformed than the hollow point projectile.  Wiseass.  ;D
