Title: Need a Prayer
Post by: Ksail101 on July 07, 2008, 09:42:13 PM
I know this is a Gun forum, but I like to think of it also as my family. I have met great people on here and been priviledged to make good relationships with people I would otherwise never meet.

I have a dog that is a year and half old black lab, and has been something that has really helped me since my return for the other side of the water. Yesterday while playing catch with her she tried to stop suddenly and her leg got caught somehow, and I have come to find out, broke her pelvis.

She means the world to me, her name is Ellie and rightnow she is in a hospital till tomorrow morning when a surgen will call and let me know what my options are. The vet I took her too before the hospital, I didnt know how bad it was, was not very re-assuring do to the placement of the break and severity. I know some of you might think she is just a dog and dont want to waste a prayer on her then maybe just add one in there for me to over come this. Cause this hard. Thanks everyone.

Ksail, you have it from me. Dogs are one of God's greatest gifts to us, teach us the real meaning of unconditional love.

Know that He is watching you and with you at all times. May His grace be on you and your friend Ellie.

My thoughts and prayers are with you.

We have 7 dogs...who are more like children. My dog (little foo-foo dog named Princess) sleeps with me every night. I don't know what I'd do if something happened to her. I look forward to her greeting me at the door every day when I come home from work. It's a lot of work to spoil a dog that much.  :)

I will say a prayer tonight for you and for Ellie.
Whatever you have to do.. know that God will be there for both of you.
Try to get some rest ...

I will light a green candle of healing before I go to bed in a minute and let it burn all night for you both.

Ksail, my prayers are with you and your little buddy.  I lost one of my boxers, just a few months ago, to cancer.  I never thought I would get that attached to an animal, but it broke my heart.  Since then my other guy has become even more like my child and I've probably spoiled him rotten, but I just can't resist those big, brown eyes.  God will see you both through, just keep your head up. :)

Ksail, I had to put my best friend of 14 years down.  It broke my heart.  I think I am not alone in saying any of God's creatures deserve our prayers for any reason - especially healing.  I join with the rest in that prayer.

God Bless,

Richard

Ksail,
I feel your pain. My 6 yr old lab blew out both acl's at the same time.
The vet did the his best, but her she was never the same.
I would ask the vet what kind of life she will have after surgery.
My prayers are with you.

I had to put down my 6 year old yellow lab last October due to cancer. For people who love their dogs, there is no such thing as "just a dog". My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Thank you for all the support so far. The surgen hasnt called yet, but I went down to the hospital and visited my pup. She was happy and everything that she could be in her situation. If she wasnt limping you would never know anything is wrong. She is a really good dog and we just hung out for like 20 min in a room. As of rightnow I am just waiting. I will not be selfish in this situation. If her quality of like will not be all that it can be and more than I will have to make one of the hardest descions I have ever made. This is my first real dog that is mine not the families. So it is just hard. But thank you all and I will probably call some of you to just talk about guns or something to get my mind of things. So I you all mean so much to me. Thank you one more time, and know the right descion will be made and she will not have to suffer for my own personal gain.

Hang in Ksail.  Seems like it might work out.  If you just have to be cereful with her, she will also learn what he can and can't do.  Strech is talking to the pet God for her. ;)

Hey Everyone-
I just got back from the Vet Hospital. So this is as fast as I could get news to you all. I am soooo happy. Things are going to work out. The guy who checked my pup out, turned out to be a really good surgen and someone who really knew his stuff. My pup's fracture in her hip is a clean break straight through. So for her age and activity level he believes that spending the next 3-4 weeks in a very confined space will be all that is required. He feels with an operation is not something that she would benifit from. I am so happy. I guess dogs heal alot differently than humans, and her body will take better care of its self at her age and health than what we can try to do to help her. She should make a 100% recovery. The place where is break is, is not good at all, but he feels that through just rest and keeping her a little sedated for a some time it should fuse itself in a week and in within 6-8 be healed with at least 3 weeks of confinement.

Also the bad news out of all of this is through further xrays, and the eyes of experience, another fracture was located in her ankle. So she did a real number on her self. She was running at full speed, and threw on the skidders ,and her leg caught on the ground somehow and like I said before, it was one of the most violent things I have ever seen.

Well thank you all for your prayers and words of comfort. I truely believe it was the help of all your prayers and positive re-enforcement that has made this something of hope and not tragedy. Thank you all so very much. My life could be a lot worse, and as of lately things  have gotten a whole lot better. The work I have been putting to make myself better is paying off. And that too you all have had a hand in. This was just a little set back that actually made my family come together and support one another. So there is positive that comes from this. Just thank you and God for the answers I recieved today about my lil' Pup.

I just read the whole thread, talk about a rollercoaster.  I'm glad to hear she should be OK.  My sister works at a vet and fostered a stray with the same injury.  The hardest part is keeping the pooch from being too active.  At first she should be slow and look a bit funny when she turns (think of a muscle car with a posi rearend in a tight turn, kind of a bounce).  When she starts to feel real good it will be hard to keep her from wanting to run and be active especially with the whole Lab persuasion.  Good Luck.

GREAT NEWS!!  The pup is gonna be OK, YEEEAAAAA!!!

This is one cat that loves dogs too and sounds like you two really found each other so this is a HUGE relief.

Now, not too many goodies (but Strech says a few are OK ;D ) while she is inactive.  She'll need good nourishment to fuel the healing.

Ksail...I got all goose-pimply when I read the good news. I'm also glad you found a good vet that didn't want to do a bunch of unnecessary stuff that would put your best gal (and you) through more trama than necessary. I wish you well...you've been through a lot today.

I am pleased, Ksail, that is wonderful news. Keeping her quiet won't be too hard, leash outside and in the house the rest. Oh, and people's benadryl works to calm them down a bit too. Generics at the local pharmacy, as long as it doesn't conflict with anything the vet gave her.

This was hard for me - I had to put my old black lab down last year - age, arthritis, incontinence and assorted other problems. What a sweetie, a rescue dog for me. Only with me 4 years. Ol Crash was mean as a junkyard dog at first, tame as a kitten at the end, and loved me and the family.

I am glad at this point in your life that you do not have to go through something like that. You are right to thank God, the rest of us just kept the pressure up.

Like I said at the beginning, dogs are God's way of showing us His unconditional love and setting a standard for us to meet.
