Title: Olympic arms LOWER - thoughts?
Post by: RTFM on July 19, 2008, 01:46:51 PM
OK - my local dealer is an Olympic arms dealer, he has gotten in NEW made this month (July 2008) blank lowers, I search the errornet and find a general dislike for Oly arms full guns in general, and I know they made a cast lower several years ago that was junk but they no longer make that.

The dealer will sell them to me for $90 each and will let me choose sequential serial numbers. (I like that- cool to me at least)

So what are your thoughts on the empty Oly lower, I was thinking of putting a Stag parts kit and Stag upper in the first one. The other two shall be determined (with the election coming up - I'm putting them away for a rainy day so to speak)

Thanks all.

I have an Olympic AR that I got about 6 years ago.  I have a Jewell trigger with the rest from Olympic Arms.  It is a pre-ban rifle.  I like it.  I have a lot of experience with Colts and this is as good or better.  I have one upper with 24" match barrel and one with 16" moly barrel.  Only problems that I have had are with the Jewell going double but looks like sear engagement was set too low.  Since adjusting no problems.  Since they are recent manfacture, should be no problem.  I am not familar with Stag parts.  Hope this help some.

Any input is welcome.
I "bit the bullet" so to speak and put two away.
The way I look at it, the lower is just the carrier for all the things that actually do the work, and I now I have them before the election, which was really important to me.

I believe that there for a while, Oly did make some fantastic junk, and they were not quite compatible with others.  That has changed under new ownership, and I would buy a lower from them at that price.  It would not surprise me that they are made by CMT (Stag).

I've got an older Oly Plinker model that's been a good gun (It's leaning on my desk right at my right elbow as I type, in fact.). I've had it 7 years now. It's a Clintonized one, made and bought during the ban. But I'd say go for it on those receivers.  8)

I only own one and it is a pre ban parts kit lower, it works very well, and I believe they have a lifetime warranty. I'd say buy with confidence at that price.
