http://www.best9mm.com/
The website has been referenced many times recently on this forum, so lets discuss it in a little more detail. I personally have a few complaints and disagree with many of the rankings:
1st: No SIG on the entire list? They should lose all credibility right there.
2nd: They list the Taurus PT92 at number 4 right behind the Beretta 92 that they say it clones so perfectly, BUT for $100 less...... In my book, that makes it a winner over the Beretta - same or better quality and $100 less..... you do the math!
3rd: The Glock 17 is only ranked #14??? I could go on and on about this, but let me just say that you will be hard pressed to find a more reliable 9mm on the planet. The Glock deserves to at least be in the top 5 of any list like this.
4th: SR9? Probably should have not had such a high rating (#15) on a handgun that has been designated by the factory for "paper weight use only". They need to work out all the kinks first before we will really see what the SR9's worth will be. I know you guys that own one have spoken highly of the SR9, but give me a break. Lets try to at least be a little objective here.
5th: Im sorry, but a Hi-Point firearm shouldn't even be on a list like this.
6th: It would be very easy for anyone to make the case that the S&W 910 is deserving of a much higher ranking then #18. Talk to any Cop that has experience with one and you will see what I mean. Should easily be in the top 15 or maybe even the top 10.
Ok There is my humble opinion..... talk amongst yourselves
---------> full disclosure: I voted for the Glock 17 as my #1 (Yes, I am biased..... but it is one hell of a gun!)
*Note: as per their rules, The guns must be great shooters, reliable, good quality, and cost less than $550 USD new from a gun dealer.

E12,
Why shouldn't the Hi Point be on the list?
I have one, have put thousands of rounds through it with NO failures on many types of ammo. It fits my hand well (I did put a sleeve on it), and is pretty darn accurate. I have had some questions about it and their customer service always returned emails or phone calls. It has an unconditional lifetime warranty (name another gun that has that).
What's not to like? You don't like the looks? I could say that about some guns. It's cheap? And that's a bad thing?
I'll agree that a total take down is cumbersome (takes a punch) and on mine it does not 'spit' the empty mag out completely (something that doesn't really bother me as I don't shoot timed matches).

What, no Browning HP!!!!!
Richard
-
Very poorly thought up list IMO, some pistols are obscure and not seen often and are specialized. And whats up with no HI-POWER!!! or Sig :o
-
The subject should read, "The best 9mm on THIS LIST" because by almost everyone here, it doesn't include your favorite.
-
Guess what I voted (hint: check my avatar) ;D
I too was surprised at some of the missing guns...and some of the obscure ones that did make the list.
-
Haz-
I'm sorry, but you can't make the case that Hi-Point should be on a list like this. This is supposed to be their take on the best of the best in 9mm pistols, and there is no way that a Hi-Point belongs on any top 25 list like that...... Especially when you look at all of the great guns that are left off the list (SIG P226 P229 P2022 P210, Browning HP, Para, Khar, etc).
Yes, you make some good points about Hi-Point, but I still don't think they belong in a discussion about best of breed. The price ($100-$150) is without a doubt amazing for anything that has the possibility to throw lead down range. However, reliability is still iffy at best. I have never owned one, but from what I hear it all depends on if you get a good one or not...... They are either wonderfully reliable or a steaming pile of crap. With that kind of reputation, I certainly wouldn't trust my life to one, and they certainly shouldn't be on a top 25 list in place of the above fore mention guns.
---------------> There is also a peoples choice list on that site that has the Browning HP voted as #1

E12,
It is not a 'best of the best" list.
Here are the 'rules' from the site;
The rules: The guns must be great shooters, reliable, good quality, and cost less than $550 USD new from a gun dealer. The $550 rule will exclude many fine 9mm pistols and competition guns. If you don't agree or have other choices, you can sound off in the Guest Book. Enjoy.
As to 'what you've heard', c'mon E12, you know better than that. I've 'heard' all Glocks blow up. Do I believe it?
I am giving you direct, actual experience with the gun. They shoot.
-
Well Haz, there's a problem with the list if they have to be great shooters because they've got the SR9 on the list and it doesn't shoot AT ALL...not till I get my damn box!

I have to comment here Haz. I've fired 2 Highpoint 9MM's my air soft pistol is more reliable, with that I expect to rack the slide for every shot. Maybe you got the only good one they made, in my experience they are, less accurate, unreliable, and overweight. For someone on a tight budget they MAY be better than no gun at all, but only slightly.

Haz-
Well, as I see it this is a best of the best for under $550 (Although the MSRP on the M&P is $679). It may just be a difference of opinion here, but the name of the site is best9mm.com
Yes, those I mentioned where above their cut off, but come on..... I would still throw another Ruger, or Taurus in there instead of the Hi-Point..... or maybe even a S&W SW9VE (and talk about a bad trigger. WOW! I hate it).
-----------------> And no, I don't believe everything I read on the Internet (unlike TAB).

Hell, I'd even throw one of the Kel-Tec 9 mils in there instead of a Hi-Point

What, no Browning HP!!!!!
Richard
+1
-
I see my Taurus made it to the bottom of the list, but it will eat any ammo I use, fits me great, I can make a 2" group with my weak side, I like it.
-
What, no Browning HP!!!!!
Richard
+1 on that! No Browning? No Sig.
Did not vote, I would have voted for the HP. My Sig is a .45.
Browning High Power - the 56 Chevy of auto-loaders.
-
I dont like 9mm but I would suggest a new list .
-
ya'll have to understand that this list came from somewhere else.. the link is posted in the begining... essentialy we are voting to determine whether we agree with their top 25 choices
-
GLOCK........ ;) Obviously, I am bias. But, you can't beat a Glock 9mm. You, especially can't beat it in that $550 or less price range. If the price range was raised to say $750 I would include sig's and some others.

Actualy, that site thinks there are 13 guns that CAN beat a Glock. ;D

Anybody checked the price on Sigs and High Powers lately? WAY above $550 for a new pistol. I think this list is great for its established parameters.......save that hi point. I've seen this site from time to time and he does update it every so often.
I'm glad somebody's giving the Jericho some love, don't see them mentioned all that much, maybe its the whole "Baby Desert Eagle" moniker that MR gave it.

I just about bought the baby eagle 45 ACP - It is better fit than CZ 45ACP and feels more like the CZ 75B.

Tom, Jaybeth, E12,
I can only give you my experience with my gun. It has never failed and I would (do) bet my life on it functioning.
Yeah, maybe I somehow got the ONE that works. but work it does, flawlessly. And at 10 yards if I do my part they go in the bull. When I throw one I know I did it. I would say that at 10 yards 1.5 (off hand) groups should be no problem at all, with any ammo.
My experience is all I can comment on.

Yes, well, Rastus swears by his Mosquito too. ;D

Indeed. I was getting ready to say the same thing..... :D :D :D

Yep, and if someone asked me about them I would tell them that two of three guys on here hate 'em and one guy loves 'em. I think mine would probably be OK now, I just can't get the bad taste out of my mouth. I will say that customer service was top notch and fast.

tombogan03884,.. :) sir.. I assure you that those 13 are not better than the Glock 9mm. I have owned both an M&P and an XD. They are good.. but I got rid of both and replaced them with Glocks. I have shot others. I'll still stick with my guns.. no phun intended. 8)

Pun appreciated, intended or not ;D How do they stack up price wise ? I voted for Glock ;D the others that I'm familiar with on the list don't impress me in 9.

We are seeing that trend here in this little poll too.

.......................... ? I voted for Glock ;D the others that I'm familiar with on the list don't impress me in 9.
Ouch. My delusions have been shattered! :-\ :-\ :-\
-
I had to vote for the CZ 75 since the Browning Hi-Power wasn't listed
-
I voted for the Ruger P89. I have owned two and both were very good. The trigger pulls were rough but I willing to let that slide because every time I pulled the trigger they went off.
A word on the Glock. I owned a G17 and I was just not impressed. It was casually accurate and did not fit me right. I have shot two seperate G19's and they both fit me better for some reason. However not well enough to make me want to buy one.
-
Well I just voted for the Hi Point. If they had my Kel-Tec P-11 on the list, I would've voted for that instead.
I picked the Hi Point because if I was going to buy another 9mm handloader, this is the only one I could justify to myself moneywise. Now if I could allow myself to go for the $500 mark, I might pick the Baby Eagle. Maybe.
-
I had to go with the Beretta 92FS off this list. I love my Glocks and own a 17 and 23 but I shoot the M9 better and know a lot more about how to tweak and repair them. I just haven't been able to get my own M9, prefering the M9A1/ GSD. The grip shape fits me better than the Elite/Vertec and the Glocks. I haven't messed with the oldest's M&P enough to have a valid opinion but it IS pretty comfortable and shoots well. Maybe after a few rounds I may modify my opinion. I also haven't got a lot of time with the PX4 and didn't like the D model trigger at all.
-
With no Browning Hi-power on the list, I went with the Glock 17, an excellent firearm.
-
Haz, you need to find out what third world country makes Hipoints and send them a letter. Let them know that you are not a pimp or crack dealer and that you have a most of your original teeth. See, their marketing department is positioning their pistols for the wrong market.
I agree... wtf ... no Browning HPs or SIGs?
-
HiPoint is completely made in the USA. (Ohio)

Sig 226 :o

Haz,
I just got a HiPoint 9mm. I'm a wheel gun guy but didn't want to spend alot of money. So far 300 rounds and worked just fine!!
Talked to a guy at the range and he has put 10.000 rounds through his and has never had a problem. I will say it's heavy.

Somebody needs to put the criteria in here for what's best. My criteria is as follows, besides price.
1) reliability.
2) size and weight, concealability.
3) resistance to the elements.
4) ergonomics.
5) capacity.
6) sights and sight options ( lasers ) etc...
7) accuracy.
8) fit and finish ( cosmetics )
9) accessories available.
I have the following 9mm's.
Glock 17 and 34.
Original cz75 with no import marks, military version with baked on finish and lanyard ring. ( great gun )
Home built Caspian high cap frame with springfield armory slide 1911, ( bough coup fun to shoot )
Kahr steel k9 ( good pistol )
Springfield armory P9, a Tanfoglio in much better finish. ( good gun )
A S&W 940, 5 shot revolver ( daily carry, great gun )
All of the above function flawlessly and all of them shoot acceptably to great.
9's that I have owned and don't anymore.
Argentine highpower, worked well, but trigger jobs would not hold, you can fix that now with C&S shop parts.
Springfield p9 compact, ( wish I had that one back. )
Glock 19 and 17l, the 19 was a 3/4" gun at 25 yards, had it hybrid comped and my boss had to have it, the 17L 3 1/2", go figure, although I have always found the short glocks to shoot very well.
S&W 469, shot well, and functioned well, I just did not like the D/A, S/A transition and the safety position.
Reliability wise, all my 9's have always worked. With my build I prefer the Kahr over the Glock or anything else for holster carry concealed. In competition, my Caspian is top drawer and just plain fun, kinda like shooting a .22rf + 19 rounds + 1 in the chamber. Daily concealed is the 940 in the front pocket with 2 moon clips in the left pocket. Out in the field, the CZ is a great gun, the epoxy finish is not quite as good as the tenifer Glock finish, but touqh. My springfield p9 has a comp and I built it for my wife, with a scope mount. The Glock 17 with Crimson trace grip, and 28 round mag is the bedside gun.
Do I have a favorite? Yeah, a bunch of them for the role they are meant for.
Sorry, long winded as usual. :(
-
The Glock 17 with Crimson trace grip, and 28 round mag is the bedside gun.
Thats my night stand combo too.... minus the laser grip ..... really makes you feel good to have 28 rounds in your hand if you have to go check on a strange noise you heard in the middle of the night.

Shooter32,
Full size? I have the C-9 (compact). But yep, lots o' rounds through mine without a problem. Reloads, hollow point, many brands, all work.

I have the full size. Haven't tried any hollow points yet.
