What do you think.
http://www.arthurshall.com/x_2007_manly_firearms.shtml
Personally, I didn't see a couple of my choices but they were pretty close.
-
I own 2 center fire firearms. Both were on the list ;D
-
I think that's a pretty good list. I personally would have put Teddy Roosevelt's Winchester 1895 at the top of of any mannliest gun list, but there were some on there that I'm more interested in now.
-
a must read. Here are a few quotes:
"However, the only acceptable caliber for a man to carry is .45 ACP. 10mm is good but hard to find, .40S&W is a wussified 10mm that the FBI created when it found out its agents weren't manly enough for 10mm, .357 Sig is excellent but hard to find, .45 GAP is new and untested, .380 is only acceptable as a backup caliber, and no man would be found dead with a 9mm. Actually, a man knows he WOULD be found dead with a 9mm, because a 9mm is a .45 set on stun, and real men do not believe in stun."
"All myths aside, the 5.56 mm round has killed a LOT of Asian losers who thought they could screw with Americans and come out ahead. If anyone doubts it, I have a standing offer to meet them at 500 yards and we'll swap fire. I get to shoot first. At 500 yards, a 5.56mm still packs more energy than a .45 ACP does at the muzzle. That's plenty of power. And it's not a sniper rifle. You should not be engaging at that range with an assault rifle. It's made to be light, deadly and face-to-face. It's the modern equivalent of the Viking's bow and broadsword."
I really laughed at this one: "I've attached the following pictures, to show the phallic excess one can achieve for a laugh, and to prove that my 9 year old daughter is more of a man and warrior than you. But you can get there if you work at it, and start by buying a good gun and learning how to use it. AR15s start at $550 and go up. Generally, the manlier the more expensive, but over $2000 indicates you are just showing off"
To sum up: I would love to sit down and drink a beer or ten with this guy.

I think he missed the ball by leaving out the pre-1900 lever action and a good single action colt. Think John Wayne.
Also, instead of the Russian, British and Swiss arms, how about a Revolutionary period musket loader. Think Minutemen.
And what about a Garand? Greatest rifle ever.
-
Yes, what about the Garand? or the single action colt? I was also thinking a side by side coach gun or would be a good choice for a manyly blaster.
-
How about a TC in any of JD Jones wildcat cals.?

I was thinking the .577 T-Rex...does it get enymore manly. :o

I guess I am only 20% man b/c I too only own two of these......... However, I almost bought a Remington 870 when I was shotgun shopping...... I went with the Bennlli Nova instead.
-
whelllll ... I've got one, but if you accept clones I can get it to three, so dress me in pink and give me a daisy :'(
Gonna try for a little saving grace - Can I get any credit for my S&W 500 ?

I have to agree, Lever action Winchesters ('73, '86, '92 and '94) should be considered. Also any thing that shoots the .45 Long Colt.

I would have to say that the mini gun also deserves a place on this list. Here is the SUV version:

I think you could also make the case for a .50 Desert Eagle
-
Where's the 44 auto mag? A long with many others all ready mentioned here.

Ahhh the mini gun, ole painless!!! You dont have to be a man to shoot it, but you damn sure do to carry the ammo.
-
Personally, We could all add (maybe the top 25),.. Henry, Sharps, my (bleepin) Mauser 7.65 is better than a Moisan!!!!
Cap an Ball Revolvers,,,,(Navy Colt?),,, oh, and a Tommy Gun with a little known BAR for back up would have been nice,...
Just thought I'd throw the question out there,....
-
I would have to go with a Colt Peacemaker. Also if you were going to add a military weapon on there I would have to go with the m-249 SAW.(I love that gun) An 1892 lever action. Model 70 (cant get much more manly than that) 203 gernade launcher. I also like the mini-14. I know some of these are not really civilian approved but they are manly.
-
+1 on the Garand
Don't forget the Swedish Mauser 6.5x55 one of the best rifles and rounds ever.
-
+1 on Garand, Swedish Mauser 6.6X55 and Colt 1911
Pre-64 Winchester 70 in .338 Win Mag, awesome punch at 800 yds.
-
M'ette, What do you think about the 10 most manliest guns, and do you have any?
-
How did Glock get on the list? Because the guy's name is Crazy Einar, and he's crazy.
My .357 Maximum T/C Contender is much more manly than a Glock. I finally found ammo for it and stocked up. That's also my only .44 Magum pistol. I also have a .44 mag Winchester 94 Trapper model. That's a tiny but manly rifle IMO.
I used to have a Series 80 Colt Model 1911A1 .45 ACP. Now I have half of one, on one of the first Para 13+1 frames, and I have two other Para .45s.
I have two AR-15s, and they look even more manly since I bought a MFI fake silencer http://www.mfiap.com/smallarms/M4-Fake.htm for the CAR-15, a scope for the other rifle, a Beta C-Mag, and some other goodies.
I don't like pump shotguns, not even 870s, but I have a Remington Sportsman 12 Auto (M1100). It looks quite manly with it's barrel cut down to a fraction over 18", 2-round mag extension, peep sight, sling, and pistol grip stock.
I guess I'm only half a man since I don't own any of those foreign military surplus rifles.

Well, I was always partial to this little shooter, not easily concealed I know.

But for varmints or close encounters it's still kinda tough to beat technology.... ;D

Welcome to the Forum Angus, I to am of Irish decent though my ancestors came over long ago, I think you will find that the Norse influence on Irish bloodlines gives you as much claim to "Vikingness" as anybody ;D With that out of the way a Security Six is a wonderful pistol, and the only reason that or the Ruger GP 100 is not on the list is because the guy who compiled it has a prejudice against revolvers. My next hand gun will be a GP in .357 because the Security Six and Service Six are no longer in production.
If you read his list of "Manliest Men" you will find that he thinks Arnold Shwartznegger is the heighth of "Vikingness" when he is actually a sniveling RINO.
-
Arnold's wife Maria, has more "Vikingness" ::)
-
Amen on the RINO.

dessert eagle .50,browning 1919 and of course the .338 edge made by shwn carlock.
-
S&W 500.......If you can shoot it consistency without your wrist and hand starting to hurt.......
In my opinion.. you're da man. ;D
-

I like that. A 9mm is okay, because any gun is better than none, but you better practice your double-taps. It's twice as effective as a .380 but only half as good as a .45. And .45 is the only pistol caliber used by any of the world's military that will consistently put someone down with ball ammo. As civilians we have the benefit of all the latest " magic bullets", but I don't want to bet my life that they'll perform as advertised. If the hollowpoints I use in my .45s don't expand for some reason, I know they're still going to be twice as effective as a 9mm, and four times better than a .380, that don't expand. And don't have to use a +P+ load that only tries to equal a .45.
I think the the hand-held mini-gun from Predator is about as manly as a firearm can get.
For something that isn't man-portable I vote for the 16" guns they used to have on battleships. I think the shells weighed about a ton. One of my old platoon sergeants said that in VietNam you could see the shells going through the air and they looked like flying Volkswagens. And I heard that when they clean the barrel of the gun, they send a skinny guy up it with a mop. That gives "big-bore" a whole new meaning.
-
Anything in .45-70, .44, .41, .500, or .357 magnums. 10MM would count as manly in my book. Anything 50 caliber, anything that can bring down an elephant. Magnum Research BFR belongs on the list. ;D

25 to 50 yard shots off hand (two hand because I'm a whimp), or 100 to 200 yards on a rest. I use a 20 pound lp tank for a target (Gov. keeps changing the requirements on these, so we have pleanty of obsolete).
Hands and wrists never bother, and I'm not sure when it starts hurting my elbows, but I have shot as many as 75 rounds in an afternoon. The banker now requires that I call him before I take it out, because the ammo use affects my net worth quickly.
-
Ya darn well better be able to stand up and prove yer a man if ya carry one of these. ;D

The pink is a nice touch... I'm still recovering from the "Ugly Gun thread".
I will add a U.S. 1873 "Trapdoor" Springfield. When you care enough to send the very best. ::)
