Title: Shooting tournament course design section
Post by: m25operator on August 01, 2008, 09:46:34 PM
My course design thread seems to be going pretty well.

Marshall, could you make a section where we could design match stages, SASS, Uspsa, Idpa, or just plain fun stages within this venue? Like a click and drag target images to a blank piece of paper, representing Ipsc, Bianchi NRA D1's, steel plates of different sizes,, Cowboy targets, paper and steel, but now that I think about it, I've not seen any paper in SASS.. After the click and drag, We could fill in the scenario, and distances and the course description. We would need icons for shooters boxes, barricades, targets etc...

I think if anybody can do it, you can.

M25- That sounds really cool. I would love to have that option.  Its wierd probably, but I am always thinking about scenarios in my head. It probably has something to do with where I have been in life and it still being recent, but almost everywhere I go I am playing out things in my head. Now I know with some of the things I see or think could be converted to a stage. I would really like to be able to do something like that on a computer instead of drawing on paper. I have probably 100 different stages\scenarios I have drawn on loose papers around my desk.  :) I do not know all the different things that are incorperated in  matches but most of my drawing are applicatible to most modern ranges and easy to set up. i would love to share a couple of my them and of course make more and see what everyone else thinks

Great Idea

I don't shoot competetively or know about the courses, but I DO have autocad here on my computer and can draw up areas, buildings, symbols or items to precise scale if it woudl be of any help.

To have an online course design feature will require some resources in terms of programming, but it can be done using drag and drop scripts.

I can only promise to add it to my to do list and check if there is an easy workaround to get it done.

Another option is the one I mentioned on the chatroom. For those interested, we can join forces and set up a postal match. We did one on CasCity.com years ago in cooperation with Trails End Magazine. If I remember correctly, we had close to 50 clubs involved in 3 continents. It was fun, but lots of work for those getting all the pieces together.

One of the USPSA sections has a course design template built on PowerPoint and Word that is pretty easy to work with.  Maybe an avenue to upload the Word files to the website somehow.
