Title: I hate traveling for work
Post by: TAB on August 10, 2014, 01:41:28 PM

I use to love it.

In the USAF, I would be gone 8 weeks at a stretch.   It was a big adventure.  The orders would read, Report to Aircraft Commander mission #xxxxx on yy/mm/dd and proceed as ordered."  End date would always be open ended.   Never knew where we were going or when we'd get back.  And back then there were no cell phones.  Making a long distance call on a mission was expensive and a breach of security.

In 20+ years of corporate life I loved to travel.  LA, Vegas, NY, whereever.   And I loved to explore when I got there.

But times have a-changed.  Travel, by air, isn't nearly as fun.  I've got too many things I want to do at home and dislike the interruption.  Still like a good adventure, but on my terms and time, not somebody else's.

See for me I see the airport, job site, hotel and maybe a city hall.  I din't have time to do anything else.  I work atleast 16 hours a day.  18 and 20s are common.  It sucks, I live off coffee, lose 5-10 lbs as I rarly eat.   In short I bust my ass and have zero time for anything.  Like now I am filling up the rental car.. I hate it.

Are you paying the bills and seeing the wife and kiddo between trips?  If so, be thankful you have a job while you look for something that fits your wishes.

Like M58 says, be glad you have a job.
But I would also suggest some better planning so you can stop and smell the roses, (or Prickly pear in this case ) before you drop dead having missed it all.

I still am a general contractor.  this is just a side gig I do for an Engineering Company.  they do all the planning and make all the travel arrangements.  it's basically what I've done for the past 10 years I'm just more on the planning side than the actual building side.  I would honestly rather do the work.  we are definitely not hurting for money and I don't have to do it. I just would rather fill my empty time between construction projects with something rather than nothing.  I am a workaholic.

I wonder, TAB.

Have no idea what this takes or the pros and cons...or doability, but I hear of communities building home or remodeling homes for disabled vets or others in need.

My guess is that donations of materials and time are easier to come by than the skilled individuals needed to get the job done, especially honchos.

From what I've seen of you here, you excel at that.

Don't know if there is anything there like that, but it would fill time and maybe with less hassle.

Ammo has been loosening up around here.  Price is still high, but has declined, and availability is getting better.  Bulk packs are pretty good in most stores.

If you can't find 45acp, you haven't been looking!

Order online...there's TONS of 45 ammo around from top o' the line JHPs to plinking ammo.
Want some Gold Dot Hps? Or some Federal HST LE ammo?
Go here:

or here: (not as good a price but it's there)

or here: (Rem/UMC 230 FMJ) $20 a box

All of the above are 50 rd boxes. Hence the "LEO" misnomer.
There is no restriction on "LEO" ammo, it's just 50 rds as opposed to 20/25 rds. This isn't vest defeating stuff that really IS restricted.
That whole listing took me 2 minutes and most of that was typing this post not finding the ammo.

You're about a 1,000 miles away from "locally" in case you haven't been reading your own posts.  ;D

TAB, My sister moved from Mass to Fla, the only thing she didn't take on the plane was Furniture.
She flew back and forth a couple times a month and filled her luggage with stuff every trip South.

It's funny, when I lived in Illinois, I couldn't wait to travel and get out of there. Usually to Florida. It was, (and still is), a favorite warm weather vacation area for people in and around the Midwest. After we moved to Arizona, my urge to travel diminished. I guess it's because I was where I wanted to be.

We made several day trips all around Arizona to check out all of the sites. Grand Canyon & Lake Mead, Tombstone, Bisbee area, Yuma, and several others including a lot of Southern California and the Pacific Ocean, and the deserts between Az. and Cal. But after that I was content to stick around the homestead. I've always heard when you get older, you like to drive and travel more. For me it's been pretty much the opposite.

I think it depends on how satisfied you are where you are at rather than a matter of age.

So??

I believe you do have internet access.  ;)
You can shop in your underwear if you want, we won't tell.
You might have to get dressed to bring in from the front door depending on how close the neighbors are.
90% of my factory ammo has been bought online.

Cool and rainy here in Bend, OR. Not shooting this year, but focusing on filming some of the unique aspects of CT's iconic event...
