Title: Need to learn about Oklahoma UPDATE
Post by: fatbaldguy on September 12, 2014, 07:37:43 PM
I've just received an unsolicited job offer in OKC.  The offer is legit.  It comes from someone I use to work for.  An actual company too!  I would like to live 1/2 to 3/4 hour outside the city.

Anybody got anything?  I'm off interneting for a few minutes then off to bed.  My reveille was 0145, and it is now 2040.

Traffic is horrible there.  Depending on where you are, you may want to locate based on not using the interstate system.

What side of town is your job offer?

Don't know yet where the job is.  Have sent several Q's about location, traffic, housing, weather, cost of living and etc.

Cost of living compared with other states low.  State income tax about 4% and property tax about 1% of value.  That being said, if you have 20+ acres and put a cow on it the tax will start to evaporate because it is set up for ranchers.

The weather may cause you to have a fraidy hole to dodge tornadoes.

Lotta ice storms out that way.. I've heard the reason the wind blows out there is because something or other "sucks so bad".. Never have figured out what that might besides the winter weather.. I like it out that way. Just flat is all..

Received a call yesterday AM from the 'money man' behind the operation in OKC.  He asked for me by name.  I didn't recognize the number or area code so I asked who was calling.  He didn't like that!   He began by saying he was calling about the job offer.  I explained I was investigating OKC in particular and Oklahoma in general, taxes, property values, cost of living, moving costs had already been looked into.  I was now looking into the water situation and how the water board had just reduced the amount permitted to be drawn from the aquifer by 90%, and that combined with the drought status in OK concerned me.  At that point, he said, thank you for your time, it was nice speaking with you and hung up.  I guess the offer has been rescinded.

Hell, due diligence on my part is unacceptable on his part.

Itemizing it to him is what he didn't like . He probably wanted a yes or no, not a CIA style area report.

Probably looking for someone who will jump right in and help them fudge the books.
I have a cousin who lost several comptroller jobs with auto dealers because within a few months being there she figured out the financial scams going on. When she pointed them out to the owner she got fired.
