As a former commercial fisherman, here in Wilmington, I'm damn happy they are the ones you can call when your 68 miles "off the hill",. I have a personal attachment to a couple of "Coasties", God Bless Them All. We have the U.S.S. Diligence, home port!
Plus Sunny Point Military Terminal in this area supplies many munitions to our military, patrolled 24/7 by RHIOB patrol boats with that darn .50 bolted to the deck.(As an ABYC/NMEA certified installer of marine electronics, I can vouch for the good stuff onboard."
They are a great bunch of guys. Thanks Mac, great post.
Quick practice day,..

Never had the chance to ask at the time, but what ribbon does the Coast Guard award for combat duty? The Navy has the Combat Action Ribbon.

?? I heard that putting you boat on the rocks is bad! On the other hand bourbon and rocks...........;D

I've been around them, but never actually owned a boat. I got HORRIBLE seasick until I was about 40 years old. Now I'm ok but can't afford a boat...you have to want to spend a LOT of time with the thing, and that's not me.
The good news is they never had to come pluck me out of the middle of the Atlantic.

I want to believe that the CAR is the same for Navy/USMC, and CG.
I was a Sea Explorer in high school and our leaders were all Coasties. We always got volun-told to help out with thier drills in the SF Bay (helo pick ups are cool but treading water in the Bay sucked) or they needed help with anything. Had to help pull a jumper out of the water near the Golden Gate, DAMN!

"Volun-told" I like that ;D

I tend to have that happen a lot. Things like "mandatory fun day" unit or company picnics that you HAVE to go to. >:(
NAVY-Never Again Volunteer Yourself, just hasn't sunk in yet I guess.
