Title: My First Lower Build
Post by: ExurbanKevin on September 23, 2014, 03:44:31 PM
Despite being mechanically declined (I saw something twice and it's still too short...), I managed to assemble a lower.

The upper is my dedicated long-range/varmint gun: 20" free-floated fluted barrel, side-charging upper from a Phoenix area company that's out of business now. The Fealty Arms lower has a Geiselle trigger, Ergo grip and Magpul PRS Stock, and the whole thing is capped with NC Star optics and hardware that I need to replace with better stuff.

So, suggestions for a decent sub-$400 long-range AR optic, ideally with a mil-dot reticle?

Very cool.    Congratulations.

I'm pretty much sticking to Nikon Monarch series, Bushnell Legend series, or Leupold VX/FX series.

Nice job Kevin, careful though - building a lower is kinda like having one potato chip.

Yeah, I have another lower on order from Sierra Nevada Arms that I am (im)patiently waiting for. That one I think will get turned into a 9mm pistol with a SIG brace once I get it.

How does it shoot?
I like the stock but every time I look at one the price says, "Buy other stuff first. You already have a functioning stock."

I got the stock as part of the gear for an article I was GOING to write for Shooting Illustrated (until I got hired to write for my current employer). To be honest, if I hadn't of gotten a screaming deal on that stock, I would have gone with something else.

As far as how it shoots, this is without the bipod at 100 yards. According to my friend Robb's shot group analyzer (http://blog.robballen.com/apps/SGA/), those three are .88 MOA.

I'll take it. :D
