Title: Moving Sucks!
Post by: gunman1911 on August 05, 2008, 11:09:11 PM
The kids are gone the bills are to high in the present place and so it is time for a smaller place. Well, I found a nice little 2 bedroom to move into which I have been laboursly working at . And have found that the old sleeper Sofia gained more weight than I and grew taller  than the door way and can't decide which hurts more aches or pain. The good news is I should be done in a day or so. The bad news comes from the utilities companies. The gas company will not turn the service until the electric company the electric company says 3 - 5 days. The phone company tells me I need to pay $40.00 up front I say fine put it on my bill.  No. put it on my credit card. NO. You need to go to you local office and fill out the paper work and pay it. Local ? the "local" office is 30 miles away! So I go fill out the paper work, pay the $40.00  and get told 3 - 4 weeks before they turn on the phone. I've got a funny felling that I should not move. Oh yea did I mention Frank, my wife's first husband (deceased) his ashes have been with us since day one of our 24 year marriage and his marble box That contains him weighs about 120 pounds and I just MEENTIONED that maybe Frank should be in a more fitting place . After some pondering she said that I was right but where would we put him. I said well what was his favorite thing to do? Fishing I said great that's what we'll do is  throw him in the lake. You don't get much sleep on a sleeper sofa.

Yes, moving sucks - even under the very best of circumstances!

Having just moved in February - dead of winter - which included me, the three dogs, cat, girlfriend, her daughter and granddaughter, and into a much smaller house (???), I am with you in spirit brother.

You say upper MI, is that da UP, ya? Or south of Mackinac? Just curious, used to live in IL and had lots of fun in both the upper and lower peninsulas.

Been in the same house since 1983, unless I hit the lottery my butt isn't going anywhere, moving is a pain in the arse.

Wow things are different in MI....
Here in ID the power is always on in a residence and when it's sold the name transfers to the new owner uninterrupted,
Phone can be on in 15 min increments (local) but we ditched or home phone 5 years ago and only use cell phones
Cable is with in 24 hours, they now offer phone too.
Never had gas (for the house that is...)

But I feel your pain brother, moving is a huge PITA!
How's the sleeper treating you...... (funny story)

Yep.

Bumper sticker I once saw:
"Yeah, this is my truck. And no, I won't help you move."

I bought this house in 2001 and I swore it would be the LAST time (unless I can toss someone the keys and tell them the new address!).

We have been living in our house for 22 years on the 5 th of Sept. It is nice not to move.

In the previous 23+ years we moved 26 times. You are right. Moving sucks. All those moves seem even worse when you realize that I spent 2 years in grad school, 4 years teaching and writing, and 5 years at my last post -- but we did move once there from a small set of quarters to a larger set of general's quarters -- there was no general to or who wanted to occupy the quarters.

So, I "feel your pain." We will not move again if I can help it!

I think this comes under the heading of "Don't ask, Don't Tell"

Remember, Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean that people aren't out to get you  ;D ;D

Why would you let them touch them? Yes, I would let them move the massive safe that holds them, but I'll take the responsibility of making sure my guns make it safely through the move.

Some moving companies will, but I'm with Ericire12 on this one.  Why would you entrust your guns to a moving company?

You find out who your real friends are when moving, unless you hire the whole "package",

And it costs regardless. Hope it goes as as smooth as possible for you.

The guns, jewelry, Rookwood Pottery from 1841, you know, album collection,.. ::), "good" stuff, got to go in the personal vehicle.

Told my wife if she had the "itch" to move again, she can get a new husband to help her.  ;D

All the best...

:) I have that one on my truck and, "Guns don't kill people. Drivers with cell phones do." They're the only two bumper stickers I ever bought and I get a lot of comments on both.
