Title: Today's 22 LR Bullet Choices We Didn't Have A While Back
Post by: Rastus on November 06, 2014, 06:22:51 AM
So I've used and have been impressed by CCI's segmented 22LR round.  I've used it in their subsonic line in 40 grain (this is not the lead head but the copper washed subsonic round) and it works great by breaking up into pieces.  It has anchored everything I've shot with it.

Also...I see CCI is offering a 32 grain segmented bullet that's cheaper than the Stinger but with the same velocity performance.  Does anyone have experience with this one?  I'm thinking it's a bargain if you can find it.  I wonder if it is more effective than the Stinger and under what conditions.

I'm also seeing the non-lead bullets (Winchester?) to address new regs but they are also touted as superior to lead in some respects.  I haven't done much inspection of the claims but maybe somebody here is using them and knows.

What is your experience/thoughts about the segmented and non-lead ammo?

Getting ANY 22 lr ammo, especially at a reasonable price, is still not easy.  Hopefully this will end soon but most everyone I know is still in the "take what you can get" mode.

Haven't heard of the lighter segmented bullet. Sounds interesting.
I haven't done a bunch of shopping for 22lr since I shoot more centerfire and I HOARDED.  ;D

I just took a look and not only does the 32 grain segmented bullet have the same velocity and energy as the Stinger it has the same trajectory too. You could zero in with one and buy which ever is available after that. I haven't looked at .22 ammo in a while so I don't know what's on the shelves.

I believe Winchester's non lead .22 ammo has bullets made from Tin. They're as or more expensive than jacketed ammo.
