Conservative Hero’ Ben Carson To Beck: You Have No Right To Semi-Automatic Weapons In Large Cities
Appearing on Glenn Beck‘s radio show this past week, Dr. Benjamin Carson took a vastly different stance from most conservatives on the issue of gun control, claiming you shouldn’t be able to own semi-automatic weapons in large cities.
Carson became a newfound conservative hero last month when he spoke at the National Prayer Breakfast and laid out a series of criticisms of ObamaCare, political correctness, and tax policy right in front of the president himself. Many called the speech “inappropriate” given the apolitical nature of the event, but many conservatives lauded Carson for his “bold” and “sensible” suggestions for policy reform.
Asked by Beck for his thoughts on the Second Amendment, Carson gave the popular pro-gun argument: “There’s a reason for the Second Amendment; people do have the right to have weapons.”
But when asked whether people should be allowed to own “semi-automatic weapons,” the doctor replied: “It depends on where you live.”
“I think if you live in the midst of a lot of people, and I’m afraid that that semi-automatic weapon is going to fall into the hands of a crazy person, I would rather you not have it,” Carson elaborated.
However, if you live “out in the country somewhere by yourself” and want to own a semi-automatic weapon, he added, “I’ve no problem with that.”

Another one who can't grasp, "Shall not be infringed".
Why don't we just say "Blacks can not be owned as slaves for agricultural purposes, but if you want to buy one for yard word that's OK."

I guess he thinks that crazy person won't think of another source for their weapons than to steal them?

Old news.
How this idiot rationalizes rights being dependent on where you live has been known for a while.
Anytime this azzhat has something to say in the media, I find another channel to watch.
He has as much chance to win the Oval Office as my goofball male *Golden Retriever.
*who would be a better president than either Ben or the current occupant.

honestly, if a criminal can break into my safe...

I have been thinking for awhile now that if Ben Carson wants to get into politics, he needs to be Surgeon General. Stick to what you know Ben. There are positions in Government that would fit you, but President isn't it.
-
I never have been impressed with him, just because he wasn't afraid to tell BO socialized medicine is a bad idea didn't make him a conservative!
-
We are two years out from the election. He is just starting his campaign, and we will have lots of time to both educate him on 2nd Amendment issue AND find out if he is qualified.
Frankly, Pres. Obama was unqualified to be president, and would have been equally qualified if he were a conservative. He just did not have the administrative/leadership experience needed to be a good president. I'm a conservative, but I want to be able to vote for a qualified conservative next time - someone who has leadership experience. Rep./Col Allen West would be someone I would vote for in a heartbeat. As far as Ben Carson, I certainly like him - but I want to know how much leadership experience he has - and I want him to be clearly pro-2nd Amendment.
-
We need someone who believes in the Second Amendment, not just tolerates it.

Exactly. In reality, I am a one issue voter. While other issues are extremely important, if the candidate does not stand strongly behind the 2nd Amendment, it's a deal breaker.
I figure as long as the 2nd Amendment is secure, we can "fix" any other broken issues.

I am running the next election( really)
-
Did you mean you were running IN the next election, TAB? Guessing you did...
Or did you get put in charge of the Board of Elections?
-
Vote for me in 2016 ;D
Seriously, it started as a joke between friends, not a joke any more lol
Already have a few thousand people willing to sign to get me on the ballot.
-
I know the Constitution says you're old enough but you're not by a long shot!
I'd vote for my dead dog first.. He had more wisdom and I bet he was a better speller, too!
:)

Speller yes. I could nit do worse then the last 3

Yes, you could!
Arrogance, your young age and lack of experience are three very dangerous traits in a "leader"!
Clinton and Odumbass were young and arrogant as well and they thought the same as you...
Start small and run for something local or at the state level. Gain some knowledge of the system, learn and work through the game. Understand what works and can be accomplished then look to something at the federal level.

The first 2 lessons lessons are #1 Your principles and ideals are irrelevant unless you can get sworn in, that isn't what "Politics" is about. It's entirely about getting, and using power regardless of your goals. The Democrats get this and do it well. The Republicans don't, therefore they have to depend on the voters becoming disgusted with the Dems.
#2, Study Saul Alinsky and Machiavelli's " The Prince".

This is not a "for-or-against" Ben Carson post....just more info for the thread.
May just be lip service to forward the election prospect.

FTA:
However, to date, one comment has irked conservatives and it involves guns.
Carson previously said:
“It depends on where you live. If you live in the midst of a lot of people, and I’m afraid that that semi-automatic weapon is going to fall into the hands of a crazy person, I would rather you not have it.”
According to Bloomberg.com, Carson recently clarified his statements on the Second Amendment:
“There seemed to be group of people—I don’t know exactly who they are—who seize upon one part of something that I said,” Carson said on the call, which Bloomberg Politics was allowed to dial into. “Sometimes people just hear one little thing and they don’t hear anything else.”
Carson said that he could have been more precise in his answer to Beck.
“Perhaps I didn’t convey it appropriately,” he said. “I wanted to convey that, you know, I’ve lived in urban areas. I’ve worked in urban areas. I’ve seen a lot of carnage, and I’d prefer a situation where the kinds of weapons that create that kind of carnage don’t fall to the hands of criminal elements or insane people. But that is secondary to the desire to always defend the Second Amendment.”
Carson said that “under no circumstances” would he “allow a bureaucrat to remove any law-abiding citizen’s rights for any kind of weapon that they want to protect themselves.”
If he were in a position of national leadership, Carson said he would seek to allow people to possess any kind of weapon they can legally buy, including “automatic weapons and semi-automatic weapons.”
With the current Republican field looking pretty much the same as it has the last 2 election cycles, Carson may be what the GOP needs to get back into the White House. Do you trust his clarification on the Second Amendment?
-
F*ck him, he does not get "Shall not be infringed".
It isn't that complicated, it doesn't depend on whether you live in the city or the country.
-
HELL NO!
-
“I wanted to convey that, you know, I’ve lived in urban areas. I’ve worked in urban areas. I’ve seen a lot of carnage"
I live in an urban area and I've seen a lot of carnage too in my career. BFD.
It NEVER, ever entered my brain that it was the gun's fault that Jamaal and Jose got into a shootout.
Do you trust his clarification on the Second Amendment?
Clarification or stroke job?
What's next? A picture of him shooting skeet?
F*&koff Ben.

As Tony Montana said in "Scarface", "Dat guy up dare, I never like him, I never trust him!"
