Post by: SaluteTheGuard on August 11, 2008, 07:29:01 PM
Hello

My question is if someone might tell me about a shotgun my father has that belonged to his grandfather and my father looked it over and all he could find was Carolina written on it, he couldnt find serial number or anything, could someone maybe give me some info like age of gun and such.

Thank You
Dennis

Without more info and pics, I just thought I'd toss this out there.

I posted a reply on the Shooting Gallery thread, muskets were converted to shotguns after the Civil War, pics would be great and a description of the length, action, etc,... PICS!

You have sparked an interest, post the PICS, and the collective braintrust will give you some great leads. I think Hazcat won the last "What the heck is this?  question" 8)

I can't post any pics yet, being cleaned and such, but I can tell you that it looks 4-5 feet in length, has a hammer like a revolver, and has Carolina imprinted on the left side (when holding to shoulder) reciever.  Sorry I can't be of more help in describing it but it's all I can do right now other than it's over 50 years old, that I do know from my father, but would still like to know exact age and what it's worth, he'll never sell, but wanna know anyways.

Thanks.

Reciever and hammer looks like below

Hopefully you have someone competent to do a restoration, not a sand blasting-refinishing job on it. Let us know if you can read "Carolina Arms Company" when they are done.
