Title: HOW MUCH for a Mosin-Nagant???
Post by: Rastus on March 27, 2016, 08:09:53 PM
Gee, the dang things (Mosin-Nagant rifles) are selling for $290-$315.  Carbines more than  that.

Mine hit the consignment rack yesterday.  Good time to consolidate calibers.  Wish I hadn't given that carbine away....even though it shot 12-14" groups at 100 yards....people are paying up to $450 for them.

One of our daughter's classmates collects that type of rifle.  I got into it because he liked the historic era, the variety, and he could buy top quality in the $100 - $150 all day long.

Come on.  They were just selling for <$150 yesterday.  Next you're going to tell me the 440 rnd tuna can is $200.

some one must be using a strong solvent to remove the cosmolean.     I remember when you could buy 12 for $400

I'm sure some are going for those prices and higher - but I highly doubt that the examples rearsenaled after WW2 are that high yet.  It's the examples that are original and rare that are pricey.

Given that Russia can no longer export guns or ammo to the US, I expect that the days of cheap and cheap to shoot Mosins are numbered.  In fact, the 440 round spam cans are going to over $200.00.  Cheapest I saw was 880 rounds for over $300.00.  I might have to start loading my own ammo with cast bullets to keep the costs down........

In fact, since one of the main reasons for owning a Mosin is cheap ammo, I think they might eventually get cheaper :)

But I don't think the ban applies to other former Soviet states or puppets, so the supply is still there.  Any physically in Russia are just shipped to another country then to the US.

Hi;

Classic Arms is listing the standard grade Mosin for $189. ea - they went and bought tons of them but I already have my full compliment of Mosin(s) and would refuse to pay 189 for  plain jane today !

     I like the Chinese 53's better !

Time to re-post what I did with my $99 wonder.  I give you the Mosin Carbine.

I thought about buying a Moist Nugget a while back but I ended up with a Savage 111 in 30-06 for cheap (free'ish).  I picked up some bullet for cheap too (300 for $20 at a garage sale) so I don't see the incentive nor the logic behind picking up something that shoots 10-12" groups at 100 yards.

When they were $80-$90 and you could get 440 rounds under $100 it wasn't a bad deal.  Not all are as piss poor as 10-12 inch groups...but quite a few are.  I had them put up as cheap last resort or to sell to neighbors when SHTF but I couldn't wait when the price went up....

LATE ADDITION:  I'm selling it to help fund a gun purchase.  The old 9MM FNP is on the block (maybe even the 10MM Bren 10) too.  Whilst looking at the 17 Winchester super magnum rimfire I came to the conclusion a 17 Fireball is a better fit for me given that I have a couple of 17 HMR's.  Well, that reminded me the 17 Fireball is a necked down 221 Fireball which reminded me I really, really, want a Remington XP 100.  The only way to get the XP 100 is to sell off inventory.....Goodbye Soviet Serf Rife.............

That might work, or they might deny entry - I do not know.  As for ammo, there may be some former ComBloc nations that still have 7.62x54r that they no longer need having moved to NATO standards.

Just got a note from AIM Surplus.

Tula Hex Recevier only $289.95

Oh wait it has a matching s/n bayonet.  Oh, that makes it worth $189 more than I paid 5 years ago.

I did get a bayonet, but mine, sadly doesn't have a s/n.   Oh the shame.

Mosin's like SKS's have gone WAY UP in price recently. Supplies of them are starting to dwindle. Just like surplus Garand's, Springfield's, and 1911's that could be bought for a song in the early 60's, and now command through the roof prices.

I think I paid around $160.00 for both of these delivered, with all the accessories and bayonets just a couple of years ago. Both are in beautiful shape, and shoot accurately. Now they're over 4 times as much, and most of them look like they were dragged behind a pickup truck on the way to the range.

But do your bayonets have matching series numbers?

Yes, all the numbers on everything match. But have they been "forced matched"? That I don't know. I've got 2 Mauser's that fit into that same category.
