Get her the Fisher. It is more expensive..but it is the best one. Might need some addons like a headset..but getting the best for her will pay you back quickly.

Have fond memories during HS of going out to the beach before sunrise and finding tons of treasure. My dad had a most unusual one that I wish I could recall the make. I wish he hadn't sold it.
Best find belongs to my wife's cousin on lady's island, sc. An original inauguration souviner button from George Washington's inauguration.

A guy I used to work with used a metal detector to find copper nuggets in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. I have no idea what kind of metal detector he had but it could tell him what kind of metal it was and I believe how big also before he dug it up. I thought that was a nice feature to have. I'm sure they're even better by now.

Used to find tons of pull tabs and gum wrappers on Hampton Beach.

The one my dad had back in the 60's was different from many today. Most today the coil is part of an oscillator and when metal enters it's field it changes frequency (pitch). Dad's kept a constant tone, but changed volume. I wish they still made that today. Of course in a transistor version as his had vacuum tubes. Required a 6V and a 90V battery.

you got off easy ;D

I still get to pay for the trip to Florida so she can use it on a beach. ::)

Be careful as to which beach. Some government controlled areas are off limits to metal detectors. I'd think on most state property below mean high tide you'd be okay, but I'd be careful if the "beach" is under US gov management.

I think a ghost town would be a fun place to use a metal detector. There's no telling what you might find.

Old fair grounds are good too.
