Governor Kasich denied the request, pointing out the obvious fact that Governors can't supersede Federal or State constitutional rights or State laws.

Here's the hard question: With all the ambush attacks on the police, wouldn't you expect their union representatives to speak up on the concerns of an attacker hiding out in the open with those that are open carrying?
Also, instead of asking to circumvent the constitution, why not just ask for more back up in the form of state troopers or even the national guard?
What do you think the Cleveland Police should do during the convention?

He's not asking to ban carry. He's asking to suspend OPEN carry for a short period of time. Do you believe open carry is a wise choice at anytime? Do you think in this time of unrest it is wise to add to the tension? Conceal and carry on.
-
Personally, I think open carry in any urban area is a bad idea. (Hell, stupid.) Now if you're camping in the deep wilderness and are encumbered with a pack, then open carry makes sense. (Easier to get at when the bear comes at cha.)
There is no way I would ever open carry at a event. Doing so at a political event where emotions are running high sounds like a way to win stupid prizes.
This is why I asked the question. I want many opinions.

.... He's asking to suspend OPEN carry for a short period of time.
But the question isn't about the wisdom of open carry, but whether a Governor can, on his own volition, suspend duly constituted state laws whenever the mood strikes? Under what circumstances should, if ever, a Governor put himself above the law and become dictator?

Note the statement made by the Gov. Where he said he can't and won't.
-
Kasich did the right thing..
As to open carry, it's legal in MA but you're basically wearing a sign saying "shoot me first"!
Carry, quietly and stealthily.
-
As much as I think Kacich is a dem infiltrator the debate isn't about "open carry" or "gun rights" per se.
It's about the threat of the New Black Panthers to show up armed .
We saw Ferguson, we saw Baltimore, we saw Dallas, and now Baton Rouge (3 officers dead, 3 wounded).
Cleveland PD probably has visions of Sarajevo, and Beirut and doesn't want to be next.
-
Cleveland PD needs to claim the rooftops from day one and publicize that to the relevant communities.
Still, I smell the approach of tear gas.....

I'll be happy if that's all that happens.

Ask yourself when you need to have access to a weapon the most? Is it during time of civil unrest, when police are being assassinated on the street in cold blood? And when you have militant, anarchist groups like, "Black Lives Matter" calling for violence, along with the killing of cops?....... Or when everything is just so wonderful, peachy calm, and delightful, out in the country on a nice sunny day? Once again common sense will provide the only answer. As Clint Eastwood said in one of his movies. "There is nothing wrong with shooting people. Just as long as the right people get shot".
-
Actually, the really wise choice is not , "crry or no carry" it's "stay the f#ck out of Cleveland".

Three of the most beautiful sights in America are:
1. Grand Canyon in the spring.
2. Rocky Mountains in the winter.
3. Cleveland in the rear view mirror.
