we have a two party political system which produces a zero sum game....
any Democrat that is elected therefore decreases your liberty and security by a small amount

I am in some agreement with your statement. I think conservative voters have been sloppy and allowed the "wolves in sheep's clothing" to infiltrate. In my district in Oklahoma on State and Federal level we have Republicans who became Republican because they could not get elected as a Democrat from that conservative area.
So, yes I am in agreement. However, I think voters thoroughly vetting the D's who claim to be R's would provide substantially more gain. Not that the voters will do that...... Just my dime minus 8 cents.

The majority of the electorate are dumber than a bag-o-hammers!

That was why after the Revolution the right to vote was restricted to property owners Ever notice that guns, speech, press, and private property, are all recognized and protected by the Constitution, but not voting.
As for the Democratic party I've got two words, RICO statute. (I've actually got a lot of other words but this is a family site. LOL)
If I ever get any ambition and self discipline to write a book it will be a history of the DNC from using "The gangs of New York" to get out the vote, through Tammany Hall up to the Clinton money laundromat.

A shillelagh IS a wonderful way to settle an election, don't ya think?
