Title: S&W M&P 15-22s Banned By Appleseed Events After Several Disturbing Malfunctions
Post by: vincewarde on September 21, 2016, 10:20:06 AM
These incidents have included:

1) Firing out of battery - including one case where there was a significant injury requiring medical treatment.

2) Firing on reset of trigger

3) Firing with safety engaged

4) "Runaway" full auto fire with trigger released

At least two of these incidents have involved rifles owned by Appleseed instructors, and the others happened under instructor supervision and were confirmed by the instructors - so it is hard to blame the operators.  Given that the M&P 15-22 uses a standard AR trigger group, one would think these malfunctions would be unlikely - however, Appleseed instructors have noted that the pins were loose in at least some of the cases.  Perhaps the polymer receiver is not holding up under prolonged use?

^ That might explain half of it but not all IMO.

The full auto incident involved an Appleseed instructor, and the rifle was inspected by several others.  Read the linked article - this is serious and NOT likely due to operator error of any kind.

my dad had an ap 22( similar design but from the 70s.  every time that thing had 100+ rounds thru it, a shot of lube in the camber and it would double, or triple.   ended up tracing it to a firing pin that was mushroomed.  new pin and it worked for awhile, then it happened again.
