Title: ruger charger@the range
Post by: xd40lover on August 30, 2008, 02:02:27 PM
few weeks ago we talked a little bit about the ruger charger i got for fathers day. yesterday the lady that bought it for me went with me to the range and i insisted that she try it. after empting a 30 rd. clip with most of them in the 10 ring at about 20 or so yds. she wanted more ammo. now WE have a ruger charger.  the frist thing i heard from the guys watching was, when she says take out the garbage you will jump.!!  but it was fun, i think after 48 years with this lady we have somethig new to share. a big THANK YOU  goes to MR. RUGER.  XD40LOVER,

Get him, Haz!  :)

You know Eric, we all have our pet peeves, and this is one of mine ( as well as a lot of others).  I read what is a great story, but the word clip just hung in my mind.

This is a clip (getting a cartridge loaded into it):

This a a magazine (a Ruger 10/22 at that):

Sorry to rain on your otherwise GREAT story and day, but like I said, it is a pet peeve of mine!

Normally a peeve for me but I'm getting over it. On a firearm where you use a clip to load the magazine I will say something. But I'm guilty too. I said banana clip one time because banana magazine just sounds wrong and akward. The guy I was talking to corrected me in a hurry. Nice to hear you both like the Charger XD40LOVER.

Not to the topic, but my pet peeve is DAO, no such thing, it is a double action or it is not, there is even a triple action ( Daewoo)
but double action means the action can be operated 2 ways, the aforementioned DAO is actually a single action, it only works 1 way.

When I had an ffl, I would take liberty when describing the firearm, I never used automatic or Semi-auto, it was self loading.

Pulling the trigger causes two actions. Cocking and firing. Dual-mode or DA/SA would have two methods of operation.

I just went and checked Wikipedia and they say pretty much the same thing about DA and DAO but in more detail. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trigger_(firearms)

Hey XD40lover, what optic are you using on the Charger? I have had one for 2 months but haven't been able to settle on an optic yet(red dot, holo, pistol vs rifle scope, etc.)

I outfitted my Charger with a 4x Nikon pistol scope.  I had planned on putting a red dot scope on it initially, however I figured the magnification on the standard scope would allow for a little more precision on the small, rimfire, steel targets.  I definitely would encourage you to try this setup, I have no regrets.

Careful Bud, I had the difference hammered into me at Parris Island, defending your RIGHT to go shoot , or do anything else for that matter. And the other guys ragging you can say similar things. If you are going to learn about something you should start with the proper nomenclature (names for parts ), would you call a zebra a striped horse ?

I'd rather shoot, but when I talk, I like to know what I'm talking about.

For Jumbofrank, a single action means, cock the hammer and pull the trigger, it go's bang, single action self loader means, you charge the action, ( load the cartridge ) and pull the trigger and for each depression of the trigger, a single round should fire. A double action has 2 modes of firing, cock the hammer and pull the trigger, or just pull the trigger which cocks the hammer and fires the cartridge. Wikedia be damned, and the link provided nothing. This is just a pet peeve nothing more.

For XDlover, I think the 10/22 action is cool, it has many add ons, to improve the basic firearm, and I walk the walk and talk the talk. No arm chair soldier here.

No one's "putting you down" XD40lover, other forums have a**holes that do, but not this one. Perhaps you take ribs and pet peeves too seriously.

I'm glad you and your family shoot together, and I would be hard pressed to find someone who would disagree with that here.
I was at the range yesterday, trying some 5.56 milsurp ammo I bought at a gun show with my 13 year old son. I finally got the scope where I want it to hit and enjoyed every minute.

Just my .02 cents, man. Haz just has a "thing" for the "c" word.  ;)

Good shooting, and have a great Labor Day.

Just got back from the range with my son.  He also knows the difference between a clip and a magazine!

As to the definition of magazines and clips; sure, a clip is not a magazine and a magazine is not a clip.  Doubt that this will ever change due to colloquialism (much less to "texting" or possibly to “Ebonics” ... but ya’ never know).  However, when people get “peeved” over semantics, they come off sounding more like eggs than cats.

"When I use a word," Humpty Dumpty said, in a rather scornful tone, "it means just what I choose it to mean--neither more nor less."

Hey Haz … Go pour yourself a Red Stripe and lighten up.  Maybe after a few Jamaican lagers you can figure out a better way to express your "peeves" & views on definitions?

XD40 … glad to hear that the Charger helped your family enjoy the shooting sports.  Wow ... 48 years.  You all found a great gun to have fun with.  Congrats.

ERICIRE12  baited the hook ,haz took it bait ,hook, sinkerline and (float)  , so i didn'seem so smart. it would have been nice for haz to been nice enough to explain it to me like one of the guys at our gun range would have. i have learned so much about guns (that i love to much) on this fourm. my grandfather and dad taught me moore about safety and which gun is good for each purpose. the rest i keep trying to learn daily, why?because its fun!!! HAZTHAT MESS OF PICTURES you responded was more of a jab tha a joke. a joke i can take a jab i dont care for . one thing about this fourm  you can read the ones you want to skip the rest. i love the fourm and i will be reading and learning. thanks to the guys understood i was just sharing a fun day in this wonderful country we live in!!!  great guns and good shooting to all .   XD40,

I actually like the picture of the clips and magazines because it shows at a glance what is more difficult to explain with words. The picture is worth 1,000 words, or maybe 100. Anytime someone gets out and enjoys shooting I'm all for it. I wish I could spend quality time with my family too.
