Sickening!  The police unions need to fire the law firm immediately.  As to the 2 pigs (sorry they are NOT LEOs) they should be run out of town on a rail!

What really bad is I know the lawyer, or I should know of him.  His father was my lawyer( and most of my familys as well) until the day he died...I'm sure he is rolling in his grave right now over this.   I'm just not sure if its becuase this lawsuit would make him sick, or if is becuase his son took a case he can not win.   ;D

PS

that last line was sarcism.

When the judge (hopefully) throws this case out on its a**, any legal fees incurred by this woman to defend herself in court, should be paid for by the LEO's.

Very ironic.

With the court rulings that Police Depts. cannot be sued for not providing protection to citizens for "crimes in progress" (which I believe is a valid ruling..and one of which every citizen should aware), the Police are now suing citizens for injuries sustained when they are able to respond.

I didn't see in the story the reason for the suit and assume it was because the family did not do enough to recognize and prevent this action rather than the family didn't do enough to stop the incident in progress and provide a safe environment for the responding officers...

The Lawyer is the sort of slime ball that gave birth to the phrase "ambulance chaser".

It is valid, had to look it up myself, lots of circuit and appellate rulings, as well as one SCOTUS ruling, all of which say the police are there to protect the general public and maintain general order, not any specific individual. I lost the page, will have to go find it, but 5 minutes googling and you should find it too.

Their suit, filed in El Dorado Superior Court, alleges that Eddie Mies' parents were negligent in not recognizing their son's mental problems and his potential for violence. Karen Mies counters that there was no indication her son would snap that June morning.

Now see this is what really burns me about all this.

Its not as if they were hurt and could not work.  They got full pay while they were injured, didn't pay a dime for medical and could return to full active duty statis.

If I get hurt at work, I have to pay my medical bills,  I will not be paid while I'm off work...   Notice how there was 3 of them injured, but only 2 filed... the 3rd was a women.  Guess we know which of the 3 actually had a set of balls.

I'm sorry, but the union should be screaming for thier jobs.  I do some work in this county, and have to go pull a permit at the county seat next week... I will be paying a vist to the sherriffs office, letting them know how I feel about this crap.  I'm sure there will be a line around the block ahead of me.

From the tone of the article the line has already formed and even the Sheriff is in it.

Sheriff Jeff Neves said the suit is an embarrassment to law enforcement and one of his lieutenants termed it a disgrace.
