After reading your post I'm inclined to say you weren't too fond of him. Is that it?
As someone pointed out in another thread, senior military brass is largely populated by left wing loons who have little grasp or understanding of free market economics. Glenn was one of those.
But, here's another way of looking at it. He accomplished very little in terms of banning guns or controlling gun sales. And, he did manage to die before he got anything onerous done.
So, it's all good.
On another subject entirely, it looks like Trump is surrounding himself with the last vestiges of sanity coming out of the military. With the exception of Petraeus who is a gun hating lib and not smart enough to keep an affair private, most of Trump's choices seem to be men of valor and honor. Not a bad start for someone who isn't a politician.

The media is painting Pres. Elect DJT as a little boy draft dodger who is hypnotized by the war stories told by old war lords. I see it as a person picking those who think, evaluate, and act as he does.
As for military leaders being left leaning, I have found over the years that there are three views of the 2nd Amendment coming out of the military: 1. Strong supporters of the Amendment and all freedoms; 2. Those who don't care one way or another politically, but support our rights and are willing to live and let live; and 3. Those who will never touch another firearm and think that only active duty under strict control should ever have access to firearms. Of course, the media jumps all over #3, putting them in the spot light, and using them to push their agenda.

What else do you need to know about this guy to determine he is a total POS? Riding a taxpayer funded rocket into space doesn't erase it. Anti Gun = Anti American no matter how you look at it.

This is what pisses me off about most of these people you just mentioned. They become famous for one thing that has nothing to do with most everything else they represent for all the years that follow. For Glenn it was a 3 orbit Mercury ride. Then a publicity stunt ride on the shuttle decades later, to boost it's failing economic image that was faltering with the public.
With McCain it was his Vietnam POW status. And the list goes on. These guys milk these moments they were in the headlines back when dinosaurs roamed the planet, for the rest of there careers. Everyone thinks because of one single moment that happened decades ago, everything they do will have this wonderful stigma attached to it. It's all pure bull$h!t.
The whole Gabby Giffords / Mark Kelly gun control fiasco comes to mind. Once again liberals trying to milk a tragedy to their political advantage. Poor Giffords got shot by some nut case. Then her astronaut, "hero" husband rides in on his white horse to help her, "rid the planet of evil military assault weapons that have no place in our society". Except they pathetically parade Gifford's in front of the cameras making her speak, so people can see what damage was done to her, in order to push their bull$h!t anti gun agenda.
Not much different than what both Glenn and McCain did, or are still doing. McCain said he would retire after his last term after he beat J.D. Hayworth. He still wants to stay around. They refuse to give up power once they achieve it. McCain should have been gone years ago. He exemplifies what's wrong with the current Republican Party. I hope he rides out on the first wave of slop from Trump "draining the swamp".

The best carpenter in the world probably sucks at brain surgery. These guys were cases of infantrymen, and pilots being elected as legislators, they never managed or administered anything in their lives and once they got elected they sucked.
