I'm still "out there" ??? just haven't been here on DRTV in a long time. My work schedule keeps changing and to get on the forum from my phone is a pain in the ... Some of you see me on Facebook which is simple from my phone,so unless I'm on the ol computer my DRTV time is very limited.
Just wanted to say hi and let ya'll know I'm still alive and kickin!
-
Glad to see you got on.
-
Shooter, that's the way it is sometimes! Check in occasionally.
Hope you and your family have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Good to see you on here again.
I don't do the forum on my phone either....screen is too small. ;D

This is the Tapatalk screen.

Hmm, might load it on my Kindle....looks simpler than trying to view the entire site....probably still won't put it on my phone though (I don't use it enough anyway).

Yep, just tried it and way to small and I refuse to get a bigger phone. :)

I have an iPhone 5, works fine with the app. Gotta play with the settings!
-
Are kindle's like iPads now?
-
Yes they are.
-
Get the tablet you want and load the Kindle or Nook reader apps on it. I am not up on the current models, but in the past they ran at least 2 generations back to keep the cost down. I have an older Nook, and I run the Kindle app on it (LOL!!). Need a new one as it is old enough that not much more than a reader now; too slow.
Good to see you posting Shooter!!

That's what I did with my HP.
The only problem I ran into was downloading from The Internet archive.
You can not download the Kindle version of books to the app, it has to be an actual Kindle device.
Not a big deal, I downloaded the Bookbazaar app and select the e-pub version instead.

I will offer some advice on Kindles, the 7" Fire is good for surfing the net and such, but I have found that the Amazon operating system on mine (Silk OS) stopped supporting Flash Player several updates back, which causes a LOT of glitchy performance on videos like youtube.
Amazon will randomly update systems without warning or the option to refuse to update. You just turn on your kindle and if you are connected to wifi, it will update without you even knowing about it. You also can't roll back to an earlier version once updated.
I ordered a $30 RCA 7" tablet from walmart back at Thanksgiving and I use it to watch youtube music videos in bed.

I have the 5s so I'll mess with the settings.
-
I just use it for DRTV.
Found that and set it to look at unread posts and such. Took a few minutes to set up and you gotta pay about a buck a month to post pictures and stop the pop up crapola.
You cannot see polls that folks post though.

Oh man, you can't see my BS polls? You gotta fix that.
I was looking at the 10-1/2" Kindle. I have a $125 gift card to Amazon and for another hundred bucks I can get the bigger one (for older eyes). Anything like that from HP or whoever I should look at?
-
I also use my uniblab so I see and vote in yer polls thataway!
-
That you do.
I also saw some other brands of tablets. I'm conflicted whether to go with the kindle or one of those other ones....
-
I grabbed a 50 buck deal on a year old iPad. I don't use it much, the wifey finds it useful though.

Well I want to stick with 10" and larger screen. I see microsoft samsung galaxy and rca tablets along with others and haven't a clue what's what. I like the tablet with keyboard that detaches but I wonder if it has a touch screen. Still researching.

Rastus,
We bought one of our sons the RCA Viking Pro 10.1" with detachable keyboard from walmart.com last month. It has a 4.5 star review rating out of 2782 reviews.....so far, our son loves it. He uses it at work to call up photos and pricing of tires for customers to see without having to go into the office. He uses it for net surfing and games.
It works like a mini-laptop with the keyboard attached, and like a tablet when detached.

And it's affordable too.
-
Yep...it's actually up about $10 from what I paid back at Thanksgiving, but not much...still a great price.
I think I paid $90 for it and $30 for a 7" tablet for myself.
Walmart uses FedEx, and I hate FedEx....(they just leave packages wherever they feel like it....left a laptop just laying out in the yard back during summer) so I just had it delivered to our local store and picked them up when they came in.

Peg I did read one thing that concerns me. The tablet screen scratches easy.
True or false?

He hasn't had it long enough for me to answer...so far, it has been OK. My seven year old granddaughter carried the tablet portion around out in the yard and on/off the golf cart while we were getting up pecans all day Saturday and it held up well. My son uses it more with the keyboard, but she used it as a tablet to play video games.
I would think they make screen protectors, but I have not checked into it.

Look for a screen protector or even a cover.
I use a cover for my Kindle and that is the way to go for me.

The Apple tablets and their phones have glass that is virtually impossible to scratch if cared for! I had one iPhone for four years and it looks new! The only reason I upgraded was battery life was taxed...
