Post by: Rob10ring on September 01, 2008, 12:34:29 AM
I really like that new Springfield XD-M in OD Green! Anybody else? I hope they're running through California certification now. They're gonna sell a bunch! :o

Here you go. I'm liking the version with black slide/green frame.

They are really hyping it up on their site.

We hardly have any of the all black/black - stainless in the area let alone green!

PS:  Haven't even seen the Ruger .380

I'm liking the look of the green with black slide. Still...first year model...not for me anymore.

You sure had a time with the SR9. In a way, the new XD isn't really a first year model. Changes from the original XD are mostly cosmetic other than the match grade barrel. By the time the XD-M or the SR9 get to California, they'll no longer be 1st year. They just need to get here before 2010, when every autopistol made becomes illegal unless it microstamps its serial number on the primers. I'll have to send the Terminator a thank you note for signing that one into law!

The Governator still isn't quite the hypocrite as the A-hole that plays James Bond and doesn't think we should own any guns at all.

The black/green pistol looks pretty sharp. Just don't drop it in the woods. You'll be like the deer hunter who couldn't find his gun after leaning it against a tree and using the bathroom.  :)

I will have to vote green with black-compact first gen. But the new M in OD and black is cool too. I just am not a big .40 cal fan. I dont own any guns in this caliber. Since I have three different Calibers already .357, 9mm, and .45acp in my closet I dont want to add another. In all actuality I don't really like even having this many. I would rather all my guns be in same caliber. So what I have is all I want for Handgun Calibers. The ,40 just doesnt fit for me.

Me too...I've got 9mm, 357, and 45 acp. Just don't see the need for .40. I wouldn't want to be just one caliber though because of shortages or supply fluctuations. OR if some day we have to scavenge for ammo. It's nice to have options, and when we couldn't find 38SP practice ammo for several months my wife had to cut back because that's all she shoots. I was blasting away with 9 & 45. So an option isn't a bad thing.

um, what exactly does the M stand for?

I've not exactly stayed current on all the new plastic pistols.

"More expensive"
They made sure not to put that one in the ad. How much more are they running?

I think the "M" is suppossed to be Match-grade.

Eventually some day I may get a 9mm just because the ammo is available in about 100 different countries. I still don't see how the .40 is anything other than a skinnier version of the .45ACP loaded up to 67% higher pressure. If it had some great advantage over .45 ACP I would consider it. But if I wanted something that put that much stress on the pistol I would also want something with more power. Like a .45 Super.

The M stands for "More"...their adds explain what the more is - like match grade barrel and other stuff (can't remember what and can't find the add)!

The 40S&W is supposed to be more like the 10mm load that the FBI was using. I remember when the CHP's adopted it, they said that it was more effective against adversaries in vehicles than the slower 45. I would think 357 sig would be pretty good, but the ammo is so expensive now.

I thought .40 was a little harder to find and about the same price as 45 acp...am I right? IF IT'S CHEAPER I might have to rethink this whole "Don't need .40 deal".

I have 4 40s, including 2 that I use in matches. Ammo runs about 5 or 6 bucks cheaper than 45, a couple dollars more than 9. I get a case of 1000 single use reloads for about 120 at the gunshow. I love 45. I just can't afford 20 bucks a box. Our local chain-type gun store has 9mm aluminum case for 10 a box. I might have to move to a Glock in 9.

As more LEAs adopted the 40, the price will keep coming down... econ of volume.

If the price of metals keeps going up I might have to buy a 9mm. Less metal, less money.

As a .40 owner, and one who studied the history of the round,  the premise of the round was a balance between the inadequacies of the 9mm in the field,(many precedents when it wasn't enough to stop a lethal imminent threat), and the kick and size of the .45 ACP.

Some refer to the 9mm as nothing but a necked down .38. Just as the .380 is a cut below the 9.

The .40 has more impact lbs. than the 9mm, and faster than a .45. I love them all, and own all 3 calibers. Different strokes for different folks.

It's an evolution, the .38 revolver was adequate in a different time, (Barney Fife, Dick Tracy days), than the .357 Mag, than the high cap 9mm, than the .40 S&W, and as always the .45ACP. The 10mm was/is awesome, but never had the marketing, even when Sonny Crocket used the Bren Ten in the Miami Vice episodes.

The .40 is a good round. And, like all calibers, a 22 can be lethal also, but personal choice is what makes firearms great.

Think of the ramifications if LEO's carried a 44 auto mag, or S&W 500, any LEO shooting with those calibers would be a media field day, there has to be a balance somewhere.

Just, as always, my humble .02 cents

Then Glock should being cutting their prices in half!  ;D
