for a few years now. I have .50 cal ammo cans filled lining the walls of my closet. I've got some boxes of ammo stacked in the bookshelves. I only train or break in a new part on a gun monthly. Then it is usually about 150 sometimes 200 rounds.
I've got around 1700 .45ACP, 1200 9mm, 700 .38spcl, 125 ea of 12 gauge 00, #4 buck, #4 bird shot, #6 bird shot, and around 300 #8. 1400 .308 Win, 700 .223 Rem, (just finished the build over Christmas) about 3000 .22 rimfire,. These are all close guesstimates.
I have smaller quantities of .45 Colt, .380ACP, there is some .32ACP somewhere, maybe a box of .25ACP in the garage.
So the question is:
Do I have a problem?
-
Yes, It's nowhere near enough, double it ;D
Trust me I'm looking out for you ;D
-
I have 1/100 th of that! The problem is mine!!!
400 of .38
500 of 9mm
1000 of .22 lr
100 12 ga of a variety.. no buck or slugs

Yes. A serious one. You need to buy more ammo!

I read the title as 100 POUNDS a week and my admiration for FatBaldGuy went up exponentially.
Then I thought, how much money does this guy make to be able to do that? And I felt a twinge of envy.
Then I re-read the title and everything got back to normal.
You took this Rabbit on quite an emotional trip.

FBG... you need to start shooting a PCC (pistol caliber carbine) for USPSA, decide on one caliber and then get a progressive re loader....more fun than is legal in most Southern Baptist states :)
-
Yes you have a finacial problem, you could be reloading and have a whole lot more ammo for the same $$$$ :D

The only ammo I keep track of by weight is my rimfire.

I'm way too OCD for that. Every case, bullet, primer, and powder charge would have to weigh exactly te same. Every finished round would have to have the exact same case diameter and length.
I know commercial rounds don't meet that criteria, and that's OK. I didn't make them.

I see some Federal Lightning ammo in there Bill. That's the only ammo of any caliber that I've ever had a squib with. I was shooting "rapid fire" with a Jennings .22 and accidentally fired another round before I realized what happened. It bulged the barrel so the slide would only come back a little bit and it totaled out the gun. Federal knew their ammo was crap and when I told them about it they sent me a check for a new gun.

I've had that stuff forever. I forgot where I bought it. But I remember they were practically giving it away. So I bought a full J hook of the stuff. Like 40 bags or so. I've shot up most all of it over the years. I have just a few bags of it left. I never had a squib or a FTF or FTE with it. About the only thing I did notice was it was dirtier then most of the other bulk ammo I've gone through. Especially in short barreled handguns.

when you exceed the load carrying capacity of your floor, its too much.
I am down too about 20k rounds, I want to buy/ roll more, but with a move coming, its a bad idea.

I am almost there. I have between 2K and 5K for every caliber I need not counting the 10K plus .22LR.

No...then it's time to revisit the load capacity of the floor joists and invest in some more supports. ;D ;D
When my best friend's father finally had to have all his guns and ammo secured due to advanced Alzheimers, he had at least a thousand rounds per caliber and triple that in the ones he shot the most (not counting .22LR, which was nearly 10,000 alone)... and he owned guns in every standard caliber.
And, he loaded probably 90% of it.

Headlines this morning:
75 rounds of ammunition found underneath house, nearby homes evacuated
What's really sad is not that the ammo was "ONLY" 40 years old. Or that it it was only 75 rounds. Or that is wasn't anything particularly hazzardous. BUT THIS HAPPENED IN FREAKIN' TEXAS.

Totally insane. It's unbelievable just how stupid people can actually act when they put their feeble minds to it. I would be embarrassed to be involved in any part of that.
They should come to my house. They would have to evacuate the city of Phoenix! This stuff alone is over 50 years old, (1967). Still shoots like the day it was made.

I could understand evacuating if it was HE shells for an AA gun, but regular small arms ammo? Geez. Overreact much?
-
Billt, if I ever stop by for that drink we've talked about and they happen to check my glove box, range bag and "tool" box, and then look at your place, they're going to need to evacuate the whole dang state of Arizona.
75 rounds??? I carry that in my shave kit. Sheesh!

So we in GA are not above some antics (thread drift from ammo buying).
Seems 3 schools were put on lock down this past week. Man with gun seen at one of the high schools.
Keystone cops it was. What I can piece together from the official release.
Off duty SWAT team member in his private car, gets a cell call to participate in serving a warrant on a dangerous person. He's not in uniform and doesn't want to arrive for the warrant serving without his gear on. He looks for a convenient place to change. So he pulls over into this large empty parking lot which is part of the high school football stadium property. He does not report his location to dispatch since he's not really on-duty at the time. Get's out, opens his trunk and starts putting on his tactical gear, including gunslinger holster. Then gets out his tactical M4.
Student sees him from a distance and reports "man with gun". It gets phoned in to 911. Student tells nearby coach who heads that direction to investigate.
Said SWAT member then hears a dispatch for every available unit to proceed to HS in response to man with gun. SWAT member thinks, he's right there, on the HS property, he'll be the first to respond. He gets in car, but has to drive around the school to get to the front office, because the parking lot he's in doesn't connect with the main driveway. Coach reports seeing, from a distance, suspicious man with gun get in car and drive off.
County puts HS and other nearby schools on lock down while said SWAT member and 20 other officers search HS grounds and nearby neighborhoods for..... wait for it......you know it.......said SWAT member.

That's too funny Alf. I can't take it. ;D
