Title: Ammunition Prices.....
Post by: fatbaldguy on February 25, 2017, 07:19:59 AM
As stated in a previous posting, I buy a little bit of ammunition every week.  Yesterday, I stopped by may usual haunt, Cabela's.  The prices were no lower than they were last fall.  Some were even higher by a cent or two per round.

I guess I'll just have to save each week the amount I would normally spend, and when I get to that point, make a bulk ammo order from one of the online retailers.  Gunbot has been showing some pretty decent pricing lately.

I am OCD enough that I have to have the same brand of ammuniton.  May be a different brand for each caliber, but everything in that caliber HAS to be of the same brand, bullet weight, and so on.....I'm just kinda sick that way.

It's not OCD it promotes repeatability. same bullet from same barrel should hit same place right.

I am OCD enough so that if I'm buying for hunting season or a competition (all seems like distant history now) that I buy not only the same brand, caliber, model and weight....I buy from all the same lot number.

That having been said, do you buy mail order?  I save a ton of money buy from internet sellers.

I have in the past.  Not in the past year or thereabouts. I have a buddy that'll split a shipment with me occasionally.  He just had his 4th child (3rd girl).  I don't think he's buying much ammo for a while.

ObsessiveCompulsiveDisorder.  I'm obsessed with buying ammunition, I'm compelled to buy the same brand, bullet weight and etc.  I'm disorderly because, it makes life more enjoyable.

It's sort of like being a liberal without the treason or stupidity.  :-)

Saw that this morning, went to the well and bought some buffalo bone grips for the Para Commander.  Had to buy the wife a smart TV to make up for it.  Tapped out for the week. Damnit!!

If I didn't already have all the AR mags I wanted I'd be all over that deal with the Pmags. I haven't bought any ammo since the 10 boxes of Corbon .45 ACP hollow points. It's a very rare occasion that I shoot anymore so I think I'm set for life on ammo.

Just ordered a 10-pack.
Today they were $79.99 (+ $9.19 shipping). That puts the price per mag at $9.00, so that's a good deal.

There is a locally owned shop within 25 miles of me that is a fairly big store for the area that still wants $20+ for Gen 2 PMags.......they are collecting dust on the racks too.

$10 back and a free T-shirt. Sounds like a good deal to me.

There are several places now that routinely have FMJ 9 MM in brass cased, boxer primed, reloadable brass under the $200.00 @ 1,000 mark.

I'm noticing that my In Box is getting bombarded on a daily basis from ammunition places. Who all are having big sales on ammo and magazines. Even Midway is having really good buys on this stuff. As are places like Sportsman's Guide, CDNN, and Cheaper Than Dirt. Even Cabela's has assorted shooting stuff marked way down in the store. These places are no doubt overstocked with ammo and magazines from the election, and are now discounting everything in order to move it.

All were betting heavily on Hillary winning, and the demand to go off the chart for these items. Now they're pretty much stuck with a lot of inventory that is going to take a long time to move at heavily discounted prices. People are no longer feeling any legislative pressure to run out and buy like they did for the last 8 years.

I'm seeing a marketing ploy of downsizing the containers.

"AMMO CAN of .56 only $74.95"

Trouble is the can only contains 210 rounds.  So they're 43 cents apiece.

I think we all have been seeing that as well.  350 22 LR in a reduced brick.  Plastic ammo cans that hold 300 rounds that make it look like times 3 is cheaper than 1000 rounds.

Dang dude...you were up early.  Are you on Eastern time?

The first thing I always do with all of these "deals", is divide the number of rounds into the price.
