I just put money down on a Trr8. I'm looking to buy either speed loaders or moon clips. Please advise on the advise on the advantages and disadvantages of both. Thanks

comments with qualifications... been a long time since I shot a wheel gun in competition, but when I did it was for a longer cartridge (.357mag) using speed loaders, and a shorter .45acp with moon clips... naturally the shorter cartridge was easier to load with the moon clips...in those days Ranch Products was about the only supplier of clips for the M25... if a clip was bent, and it was easy to do when loading and unloading the clips, it would cause cylinder drag... additionally I had to mill about .025" off the nose of the hammer (firing pin on nose) of the M25 to reliably reach the primers as they were springy in the clips...I'm sure the clip technology, as well as SW in frame firing pin location has eliminated these problems
Alf should have more timely comments.. as I think he shoots one of those archaic wheely thingies

I like moon clips. Both options have a large diameter, but the moon clip option is only as long as the cartridges - The speed loader will be twice as long.
My favorite for a carry revolver is actually speed strips - More compact than a magazine for a pistol.

I use moon clips with my 9mm 929 and speed loaders with my 686's.
Moon clips are faster, but more fragile. Slightly more compact than speed loaders.
Speed loaders are bulkier but sturdier.
Typically, it's best to use moon clips for shorter cartridges (9mm, .45ACP and .38SC). With longer cartridges they tend to wiggle too much to be real effective.
TK moon clips are the best, the tightest and the most expensive. I'm talking $5+ apiece for a little piece of stamped metal. But well stamped.
Safari Comp-3 are the more popular Speed Loaders. It has springs to forceably push the cartridges into the chambers. HKS are good manual speed loaders. No spring but sturdy and sure.
Not sure who makes what for the TRR8 though.

Looks like I'm going to buy both and evaluate them. I've never owned a 8 shot wheel gun. Excited is an understatement. It's good to be back. Man it's been a while. Living overseas for a while and some sites are blocked for some reason.
