Post by: Rastus on November 23, 2017, 07:37:26 PM
Happy Thanksgiving guys....

Our kitchen is demolished and being rebuilt so....no turkey here today.  We went to Tulsa and scarfed up Thanksgiving fixings....for which I am very thankful.

I hope everyone here had a great Thanksgiving.

You too Tom Bogan....wherever you are.

We did Thanksgiving at my house this year and this Rabbit did the cooking.

It was a simple, southern-style meal with a couple of added extras.  We had roasted turkey with traditional dressing.  And I did a second casserole dish of oyster dressing just because I like it.  I also did a dish of green bean casserole, too, but not the kind with Campbell's soup.  I make my own bechamel (basic white sauce) then load it up with bacon, sauteed mushrooms and caramelized onions.  That goes into a covered Pyrex 9x13 with the green beans, and into the oven.  Final 10 minutes I uncover it and heap French's friend onions on top.  It looks like the traditional dish, but tastes like heaven.

And we had mashed taters and plenty of gravy.  And we had sweet potato pie with freshly whipped cream to top it for dessert.

But the best addition to the meal came in the form of Hazcat and Deepwater sharing our meal. Turns out they were both "orphans" this year.  Haz Jr is in ship's engineer school and couldn't make it home.  Deepwater's family is on the west coast and his wife is back with her family in Peru, so I adopted them for the day.   Deepwater brought over a batch of homemade noodles with herbs and butter on top.

Of course, we started the afternoon with some Larceny bourbon--an exceptionally smooth tot that Hazcat claims is superior to Maker's Mark.  And I'm not convinced he isn't right--good stuff.

Good friends is something to be thankful for all year round, but it's especially nice at Thanksgiving.

Hope you all enjoyed your day as much as we enjoyed ours.

A belated Happy Thanksgiving. I spent the day with my Sons family, we had all the usual fixings. Topped the meal off with a good cigar and some one on one conversation with my son. Was a good day.

Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving.

We did Thanksgiving at the church, cooking for folks who wouldn't normally have a Thanksgiving meal like the elderly and such, as well as all the police, fire, EMS, and sheriff departments for two counties.
Myself and two other men cooked 275 pounds of turkey breasts on the grill while others cooked the sides in the church kitchen. My wife had cooked 20 skillets of cornbread for making the dressing, and seven of us went in on Wednesday evening and cooked the eggs and diced them and the onions to make final mixing and cooking easier Thursday morning. We also made sweet potato souffle and green beans with pound-cake for dessert.
We had an incredible group of volunteers working.
We started at 4:00 AM Thursday with prep work and cooking and from 11:00 to 1:00 we served or delivered 393 meals (90% were deliveries).

Along with some 308 zeroing....
