There's a new product for Ruger MK II and MK III .22 pistols that will save many people a whole lot of frustration. The new Hammer Strut Support takes a couple of minutes to install. After that the hammer strut will never end up on the wrong side of the sear spring stop pin again. You'll have easy assembly of your pistol from then on. It works on MK II and MK III, as well as some MK I and Standard pistols. I was getting ready to order one for my MK II and decided to see if anyone else has heard of this first. I'm looking for feedback.

I already have a Majestic Arms Speed Strip Kit for my 22/45. I have a rubber grip sleeve on it that's very hard to get on and off. With the Speed Strip kit I can take the bolt out to clean the barrel and receiver and that's all. The Hammer Strut Support is less than 1/3 the price, and when I put one in my MK II, I'll be able to do a regular disassembly without worrying about putting it together wrong again. What do you think? $15 sounds like a better investment to me than another $46 (marked down from $49).

Nobody has used the Hammer Strut Support? Heard of it before? Have an opinion on it? Anything?

Jumbo... my first .22 autoloading pistol was a MKII 512 (T)... other than curiosity as to how it worked, I never routinely took it apart again.... tooth brush and Hoppes, and later spray can of brake cleaner

Yep, but I have nothing against the Rugers. I've shot a lot of them, just never bought one.
I had a neighbor bring one to me a few years ago in two ziploc bags. His dad had completely disassembled it and couldn't get it back together, so he put it into the bags and put it in a dresser drawer. My neighbor found it when they moved into the house and were cleaning stuff out.
Knowing nothing about the internals, it took me a half-hour and two different youtube videos to get it back in working order. ;D
As far as opinions go, from the one experience re-assembling one, ANYTHING that would make the process simpler is a positive thing.

I've gotten into them a time or three to get some dirt and crap out, and to install the speed strip kit in my 22/45. I had to put a different hammer in for that to work. If you remember the exact sequence and pull the trigger, tip the gun first one way then another and gently shake it back and forth, all at just the right time, as you insert the mainspring housing or whatever Ruger calls it, then it's not too bad. But I haven't done it enough to memorize the right sequence and can't get it right the first time, every time. One thing I do know is that a paperclip is a good tool to pull the latch out to take it apart, but a loop of any plain old wire works even better. You can make a loop big enough to use your whole hand. No more scratches or gouges to the metal from prying at the latch with a screwdriver. It seems like there was something else I used too but I can't imagine what it was.

I have no problem cleaning the bore on mine.
I hold it upside down, so anything pushed to the breech falls clear. I use brake clean on the bolt, also with the gun inverted.

I don't like cleaning any of my guns from the muzzle if I can avoid it. I may not buy this part because I haven't shot that pistol in a few years.

That's one of the things I like about the Buckmark when it comes to cleaning. I just remove three screws and the barrel tilts off. I just put it in the ultrasonic cleaner to clean the fouling and then run some patches down the bore with copper solvent.

I don't have to take any screws out of my Mark II, just pop the latch and pull the mainspring housing out, then pull the bolt and recoil spring out together to clean it from the breech. If it wasn't tricky putting the mainspring housing back in it would be great. But if I put this part it won't be tricky anymore, so I probably will get it eventually. The guy who owns the property next to my friends' cabin also has a Mark II. I should buy him one too, but probably won't see him until sometime around Memorial Day weekend if he's even there. I should have my friends get hold of him.
